Title: Does ArcadeVGA2 and PowerStrip work well together?
Post by: GaryMcT on July 30, 2009, 06:12:55 pm
If I wanted to start with ArcadeVGA and add new resolutions/refresh rates with PowerStrip, does that work fine in your experience?  Want to make sure before I get one.

Thanks!
Gary

No, because AVGA cards are based on ATI chipsets but don't use a standard ATI driver.

Why would you want to use Powerstrip (PS) on an AVGA card anyway?

If you want to use PS, try getting yourself a card with an ATI Radeon 9250 or 9550 chipset. That is what the AVGA cards V1 and V2 are based upon, and PS works well with them (as does Soft15khz, which is very nice and easy to use by compairson with PS).

I'm looking at getting some of the refresh rates working for some games that aren't right with ArcadeVGA.  I figure it's quicker to start with something that works and go from there.

I reckon you'll have more luck with powerstrip or soft15khz omn an ATI radeon 9250 then.

The advantage of PS this this is that you can tweak the video mode settings "on the fly". If you use a remote desktop access tool like VNC then you can control your test-PC from another PC on your network, and thereby get around those niggly problems when you can't see anything on the test-PC screen.

I managed to get my ATI 4800 working with soft15kHz tonight, so life is good. :)
