So I'm setting up my Xbox on my Taito Egret 2 cab with the J-Pac set-up. Trouble is, when it boots up, the picture looks all crappy and pixelated. On other occasions it obviously isn't outputting at the right resolution.
What am I doing wrong?
Which jumpers must I have set for my 15/24HZ arcade monitor?
Also, is there anyway I can damage my arcade monitor using the J-Pac? Or is it foolproof?

Your Xbox is putting out a signal for TV. The Jpac only protects the monitor but it does not convert the TV signal to an arcade monitor. You are missing a piece of hardware. Being an Xbox its outside the usual PC answer- and arcadeVGA or soft15lhz) I suspect you will need something like this http://www.arcadeparts.com/monitors/49272710.htm.

Strange - it seems to imply on the Ultimarc website that it converts to 15KHZ...

You did get me thinking though... if you changed the settings on your Xbox from 50MHZ to 60MHZ would this make a difference? Also, how about if you changed the settings of your Xbox to be able to output in HD would this make a difference too?

The J-pac does output 15Khz- but it does not control the picture
If you were PC based, using all ultimarc products , you'd use a J-Pac and an ArcadeVGA. From the J-Pac FAQIMPORTANT: It is not a scan converter so you will have to configure the VGA card to send the correct sync rate for the monitor OR you can use our ArcadeVGA card which will drive a 15Khz monitor with no special configuration.
Now because you are using an Xbox its different. But you still have to convert the picture itself to 15Khz- whih is why you are getting a poor picture.

The Xbox outputs a 15Khz picture which should be compatible with an arcade monitor. If you are using our Xbox to J-PAC AV adaptor this should work.
Possible issues: The J-PAC needs to also be connected to the Xbox control adaptor otherwise it will have no power. You need to remove any red jumpers form the J-PAC sync pins to enable composite sync from the Xbox to pass through the J-PAC.
