Hi,
Is it to ok link two sets of controls to one input on a Ipac? So I can have my 4 way controls on the same set of inputs as my 8 way controls player 1.
I want to do this so I don't have to remap keys to use the 4 way controls.
Also if this is ok can it damage the Ipac if the two sets of controls were pressed at the same time by chance??
Thanks
Gary

It's fine. In fact, that's how it's usually done. Do it with no problems.

There shouldn't be any danger. I'm pretty sure this is what most people do. When you connect, though, leave your common ground in series, but make sure to wire your joysticks with a "Y" connection. Otherwise you'll have to press BOTH just to get it to respond.

Troubles you will find...
Your about to make a killing move against you nemesis (best friend) who quickly grabs the 4 way joystick and moves you back... giving him enought time to wake up...
If you have the extra ports on your ipac, use them. Or you can add a switch on your cabinet that will break the ground for one or the other.
But it does work.

You can use a switch to alternate between the two.

Well I was going to buy a Ipac 4 I just thought it might be a real pain to have to remap all the 4 way games.

Use ctrlr .ini files, use ctrlr .ini files, use ctrlr .ini files (http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/mamecontrolini.htm)! Soooooo much easier than the mame UI tab way if you want to change inputs on more than one game and less than all of them. (And for one game or all games situations, they're about the same.)
