Title: Mini-Racer Wheels
Post by: Invincer on July 25, 2009, 12:27:49 pm
If I wanted to try the Mini-Racer wheels where are the places I could purchase them from? I looked at Groovy Gamer and to get the wheel I also have to order the spinner, which I already have. I emailed them to ask about ordering the wheel by itself days ago, but no response. Are there any other places to purchase from?

I don't know this for sure, but I recall a thread here where someone else had the spinner already and asked about buying the wheel from GGG and he was told that yes, he could do that.  If you do a search you may be able to find it (I found it several weeks ago when I was doing a search for reviews of the TT2).

Otherwise, you may be able to find them "used" in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum.

RandyT WILL sell you the wheel since you own the spinner. Just wait to hear back from him.

After 3 messages, they FINALLY responded to me at GroovyGameGear. No, Randy says they will NOT sell me a mini-racer wheel unless I also purchase a TT2 spinner (even though I explained I already have one). Well isn't THAT just great. :/

Anybody have a used Mini-Racer Wheel they want to sell???

Actually, in that email (the only one I saw at that time) you said you already had "a spinner" and you were not in our database.  I looked through the spam box (not sure why it ended up there) and found an earlier one where you stated you had purchased from DA, who is now selling SlikStik spinners, which will not work well at all with a steering wheel due to the very low resolution.

So if you have a genuine TT2, I will be happy to offer you one of the wheels.  We usually like to go through the OEM for these types of situations, but I'll make an exception here.

Also, we decided a while back to no longer offer them separately because there is too great a possibility for them to get an undeserved "bad rap" when used with spinners they are not designed to be used with.

This is what I based my response on, but I guess it didn't give a clear picture.

Thanks for coming in and clearing up the story, Randy, since we don't need people getting the wrong idea about our reputable vendors.

Hi Randy,

I wasn't trying to bad rep you or anything at all, I was just getting frustrated a bit and just wanted to explain I was willing to buy one here if you wouldn't sell me one.

That is correct, I did get the cab/spinner from DA but I had no idea they were selling slikstiks since they advertise their spinners can include buying the wheel attachment as well. In an email from DA back when the cab was shipped and cables came unplugged to it, they had told me on an email that my spinner was a TT2 or Tornado. I had read on these boards in addition to the TT2 the wheels would work with a tornado also. I am including some pics so you might can telll which it is since to my untrained eye I have no idea...

If this is a TT or a Tornado and will work with the spinner I definitely want to buy one... if it is a slikstik I want to know that too so I can buy one of yours if I have to so that I can also have the wheel working. But if mine works with the wheel I don't want to buy a spinner if I don't have to (Lord knows I have put WAAAAAAAAY too much money into this thing from DA than I needed to). I wanted to go for a real steering wheel but there is no room on my CP and the steering wheel stand scenario I had posted about on here was too iffy for trying.

So see if you can tell me what kind of spinner I have please from these pics so I willl know what route to take... Thanks!!!

Go easy on him Randy.  He's had a pretty bad experience.

He's forked out over $6,000 to DA for this cab.  All that money, and it's powered by a sluggish $300 eMachine.

And his rotary sticks aren't configured properly.  Rather than helping him to resolve the problem, the DA staff fobbed him off and sent him to BYOAC to get the help he needs.

Now, it appears they can't even tell him what spinner he's been given for his money ... "they had told me on an email that my spinner was a TT2 or Tornado."

Invincer, does that about wrap it up ?    :timebomb:

Having said that ... Invincer, Randy's always had the policy that the steering wheels will only be sold to TT2 owners.  He's giving you the same answer as others have received.  You're not being treated any differently.

As you don't have a TT2, you'll have to dig up another $70, and order it together with the steering wheel.

I'm sure you'll find a buyer for your Tornado spinner on E-bay.

He did.

It's a figure of speech.

I'm not suggesting Randy came down hard on him.

His experience with DA, of which I'm not sure if Randy was aware, helps to explain his exasperation.

I don't know how else you're supposed to take "Go easy on him" other than "you're being hard on him"

We're not writing essays here.  We're posting in a casual forum.

Nitpick if you wish, that's OK.

Maybe a better choice of words is "go easy on him everyone".

And, No, that doesn't mean I think everyone's being hard on him.  It just means I feel sorry for the poor bugger after his rough experience with DA.

*DONG* There's the bell! Go to your designated corners!

Why don't we call it a tie and move on instead?   ;D

It was over before you got here. I'm not here to argue semantics.

Sorry but who is DA?  Sounds like a company I definitely don't want to be dealing with.

DA=DreamAuthentics, and thanks TPB.... I couldn't have put the experience better myself, and did not want to get all into that again.

Anyways, being that my computer hardware installation ability is moderate but my CP installation abilities are greenen than green, how hard then would it be to take out the tornado, and put in a TT2? I definitely don't want to take out the tornado, be unable to get the TT2 installed or working, and then be unable to reinstall the tornado. Don't laugh, with the way my luck has been running, I have to try to anticipatee the worst...

The TT2 needs a the same size hole as a button does. Have a look at a installation on the reviews page. looks to be really easy.

The TT2 is as easy to install as a Happ button and comes with it's own USB interface board.  So as long as you have a free USB port the installation should be a piece of cake.

I haven't installed a spinner, but, based on what I've seen, it looks really simple.  Take out the old spinner (should just be a set screw on the knob and a jam nut on top/bottom of the cp) and the encoder board (a couple screws on the bottom of the cp).  To install the new one, you just need to do the same in reverse.  Even if you do it at a glacial pace, you should be done in under 30 minutes.

You will probably need an allen wrench (don't know what size), a screw driver (probably Philips, and a pair of pliers or a large socket (don't knwo what size).  If you have a basic PC repair kit, you probably have the tools you need.

I guess I will try it then need some kind of wheel for the racing type games, at least some of them... Gonna order one this weekend then...

It figures, I had ordered the racing wheel attachment from them as well, but all they could tell me was "it was on backorder". Well if I have a tornado and the wheel doesn't work on it, they had no intention of sending me a wheel I bet.

Send them the spinner back and ask for a refund.  If they can't deliver on an item in the order, then you shouldn't have to pay the penalty for it.  Based on the cost of the machine, you should be getting back ~$250 plus the value of the tech suckport.   :laugh2:

Are there ANY racing or steering wheels DESIGNED for the tornado? I don't ask for using it that way, I am going to purchase the TT2 and mini from GGG. I ask because I am slowly collecting bits of information to give to my lawyer for a possible lawsuit.

Getting ready to make the purchase now on GroovyGameGear for the TT2 and mini racer wheel. I see on their site another spinner called a TurboTwist High-Low™ Push-Pull Arcade Spinner Control  which also has an option for the 5"mini racer wheel. It would add the buttons of clicking in and out on it; which I like the idea of. Anyone with any idea how these operate? I don't see the reviews for it like I do the TT2. How much more easy/difficult would it be to install this than the TT2 regular? Any input appreciated... thanks!!!
