Hey all, getting my cabinet together, and I am looking for some advice, as usual.
I have an Athlon 1 gig machine, 512mb Ram, etc... I am a mame32 user right now, but that may change when I get the cabinet done. I am big into older games like Tron, and newer games such as Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat 3. I am going to buy an ATI 8500 for my video, since my current video card is garbage. I was reading about the component vs svideo thread, and it looks like component may be the best route for me.
Anyone have any input about this tv?

It looks like what I want..... 25", Svideo and Component inputs, just in case I don't like one or the other.
Any reason why I should avoid this setup?
Thanks
Anthony

This is one of the TV's I'm also considering buying.
However, the TV is 32" wide (because it has the speakers on the sides of the TV and not on the bottom like most TV's).
The quality is pretty darn good and it definitely has all the inputs you could ask for.
Are you going to convert from s-video to component off of the 8500 card?
The other TV you might want to look at is the http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1051806207491&skuId=4642186&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03003 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1051806207491&skuId=4642186&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03003)
It is a 27" but it only has s-video and is pretty generic (quality isnt great, but MAME graphics arent too great either).
I'd also be interested in other peoples' opinions on the Philips though.
I might stop down to Best Buy tonight and pick up one of these two TV's depending on the responses here :)

Wow, didn't notice it is that big, they don't have the dimensions on the site, that I saw....
On to look for another one :)

Do you really think thats too wide for a cabinet? It's the best TV that I've seen for the price.
What do you think of that Sansui 27"?
-
Yall might do better to find a TV with the speakers below the screen rather than on the sides. That seems to be the fashion for TV's these days, but it makes for a a much wider TV.
I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I've seen some great prices on TVs down at Walmart on brands like Apex and I forget the others, but they're cheap.

AlanS: What do you think of the Sansui 27" that I mentioned above? (with the link)

I didn't see that link. That one actually looks pretty good. I know one problem with the Paex's is that they go back to "Ant In" after they've been turned off. It would be nice if these stay on "Line In".
They have S-video in back, though, plus the RCAs in the front. The ones in front might come in handy for hooking up external devices (if you ever wanted to for some reason or another.) For instance, you could hook up a PC through the back and a console through the front. Leave them both in your cab and you can use either whenever you like. I think it looks pretty good.

Actually the one I linked to does not go back to Ant In when turned off.
I'm wondering though if I unplug it and replug it back in, if it will automatically turn itself back on. Otherwise I'm not sure what I will do to turn the TV on everytime I use it.
Do you think I should wait to get a TV that support component-video inputs or is s-video plenty?

The original games aren't going to give you much better than s-video quality, anyways. At least not most of them. I would think s-video would be fine.
