Title: Guaging interest *Update 2.8ghz and maybe 3ghz machines small qty available.
Post by: Dr Zero on July 24, 2009, 12:02:25 pm
Would there be an interest in some used P4 2.8 or 3gz boards with onboard video and sound maybe with a 64mg nvidia card and a SB audigy card pretty cheap (30-40).

The reason I ask is I may be able to get a small quantity when we upgrade coming up for a pretty good price but I have to buy like 20 and that adds up quick LOL

Around here, if the price is right, there's always interest.

probably not me, but if someone is looking for a cheap computer to put in a mame cab that would be a very nice fit, im planing on using 2ghz'ish machines cause thats what i got on hand but those with the right mame will still play damn near everything not 3d.

so i think a 3ghz p4 would be a good system for most mame cabinets.

price sounds about right.

Depends the price.  I'd give you $75 for a p4 3ghz(especially if it has an AGP or pci express port) since it should be able to play 720p videos and would make a good emulation platform for my TV.

My 2.4 P4 won't quite play 720p videos smoothly, but my GF's 3GHz p4 will.

If it's LGA 775, takes ddr2, has PCI-e, I'd easily pay $100.  I'd take a couple of them at $100 if it has gigabit lan.

Most  have AGP and a Nividia FX-5200 64mb or one with 128mb with vga and dvi
And its also a LGA775 with 4 slots for memory some come with 512 the rest have been pulled
They have onboard lan but I dont know the chipset these are intel boards though.

If I can get them I would have the whole system with dvd drive and floppy and psu but shipping is a killer on whole units.

Most of the time the vendor that gets all these doesn't even unwrap the shrink wrap the whole pallets gets sent out as is.

Like I said I'm just trying to see if anyone might be interested not selling anything yet I hate to tie up money that I could be spending on cabs  :laugh2:

If you end up getting them, I'd like to get one(or more) off of you if they're a decent price.  Especially as I've got an extra Geforce 6600 agp video card(good enough for somewhat older games like Call of Duty and even Doom 3) so that'd make a pretty great system to hook to my HDTV for emulation, TV, etc.

I'm guessing these take DDR2?(very few LGA775 were normal ddr).  If so, that makes the lack of ram a non issue.  DDR2 is CHEAP(and I've got a bunch of it), you can get a couple GB for like $20-$30.

I'd probably pay the extra shipping to get the whole system as it'd make it a bit easier.  Do they come with hard drives or are those pulled too?  Do the motherboards have SATA ports?(that's a big one I forgot to ask.  I bet they do, but some LGA775 boards didn't)

Let us know if you end up getting them, if they're priced well I'm sure you'd have no issue getting rid of them  :)

Id be down for 1 or 2, esp with ram/video/sound  I can get a HD, but hey if it comes with one of those too, even better!

Yeah I'd be interested in getting 1 or maybe 2 of the 3.0's if the price is right.

I got some pics of the 2 different ones and will post them later the 2.8 does not have sata and is a socket 478 the 3 has 4sata ports.

The majority of the units are going to be 2.8 but know that I will try to get 3s if I can.

HDD's per security protocol are all pulled and tossed in a disintegrator.  :banghead:

When I get a better time frame of when they will be available I will let you know!

Pics coming

Definitely pencil me in for a 3.0 heck even a 2.8 as my next cab is gonna be a dedicated  vertical cab and the cpu should be more than enough.

Depending on how they're populated, I'd be interested.

heck half of the time people around here arent even interested in cases.

i got my whole setup parts only and the guy called me to make sure i didnt want a case.

thanks.

If someone could move this to the buy sell trade I would appreciate it

I can get 10 units next Monday and like I said I will try to the 3ghz but probably most would be 2.8

So if interested folks would post here and specify if they want just a board  or a whole system I will keep a running list.
When they come in I will test each one to be sure they are working occasionally there are dead ones so there might not be 10 available so no money till checked they are 100% ok.

id be very interested in one of the 3.0 ghz setups. im planning on starting a new project my 3rd and final cabinet.

ive got a horizontal and a vertical already and ive got room for one more. its gonna be a combination gun / driving cabinet. but if the driving controls prove to be too cumbersome, ill just add the guns to my horizontal 6 button, 2 joystick cabinet.

anyway, id need the electronic guts and also id need you to drill out the drive bay rivets and send me the drive holders too.

one of my favorite ideas ive come up with is to weld the drive holders out of a tower case right behind a happ double width blank access door.

im actually, im not done with this yet. when i am, ill send pictures of that setup.

btw, theirs nothing i hate more than looking into an arcade cabinet and seeing a computer tower.

after all the work i want to see what ive done.

it definately adds degrees of authenticity when you take everything you can out of the case.

it looks more original specially to people who dont know better and just go WOW when i pop the back off of it if someone asks me to.

I would have to send you a whole unit so you can decide how you want to do the drives the bays are not like on some units.

If I cant get 3 would you still want the 2.8? I cant guarantee what will be available.
