Title: Monitor shelf ideas
Post by: TheGameAh on July 10, 2003, 09:35:46 am
Hey guys.  I'm looking for a way to mount my monitor in the cabinet.  The best idea I think is to just make a shelf in there and set the monitor up, maybe putting something behind it to keep it from sliding if it's at an angle.  What are some ways you've mounted your monitors?  My idea was just to staple of screw runner boards from the inside and set the monitor shelf on that.

thats usually the standard method....

But staple? Consider the weight of your monitor here.

I have a 20" flatscreen TV in my cabinet and I used 2 2x4's and 1/2" MDF as a shelf......

Hey head!

Tell me what's the link to your site!  ;D

Here in Portugal, the generic jamma cabs have like metal leagues to hold the monitors like wells and stuff! :)

It's dificult to explain but it's a safe method!

I used 2x4s as part of the frame of my cabinet and supported the 3/4" MDF shelf on the 2x4s, with a another piece of 2x4 in back of the TV to hold it in place.
Take a look on my web page and look at the picture with the open back of the cabinet.

Generic solutions don't always work.

What CRT do you have?

Are you keeping it in a case?

This will make a difference.

If you are going VGA monitor in case, just build a shelf at the angle you want...  Then remove the bottom stand from the monitor...  Then Build a flat shelf to sit it on...  Get it in the right area... Then screw in some wood to make it not move.  Then if you get a different monitor later because of... well... Whatever... You remove two small boards and you should be fine.

If its out of case... Then you need to find out how you CAN attach it.  If you have room, it might be better to build a small frame around the CRT itself... then attach that to the cabinet.
