you know the games that require two joysticks. i know i know, just put two joysticks on your cp side by side. yeah, but is there another way to play it?
-
If you have a two to four player CP, couldn't you just use both sticks? (i.e. configure mame to recognize the second stick as button 5,6,7 (whatever it is) through "Input this game" so that it only does it in Smash TV?
Sure you're hands would be spread apart, but at least you're not wasting one stick for only one game.
I was planning on doing something like that for my cab, but Smash TV isn't a big priority on my list.

Yeah, just configure any two joysticks up. If oyu have a 2 player panel with only 1 stick per player you won;t be able to play multiplayer. Many games use two joys.

One of the reasons the joysticks on the HotRod and X-Arcade are spaced as they are is so you can play two joystick games. This feature many people complain as "the sticks are too close together for two player games". *shrug* Either do this, or have a stick on both sides of each player's buttons. I prefer the former.
A hack-ish way to play moving/shooting two joystick games (but not well) is to map both the moving stick and the shooting stick to one joystick in mame. This way you can only shoot the dirrection you are moving, so it suchs compared to playing with two sticks. It won't work for other two stick games like crazy climber or assault, though. Also, some two joystick games have cheats that let you use one joystick (I'm thinking assault, IIRC), but I heard the cheats suck too.

It might be kind of cool to configure it to run with SNK's LS-30s through a Druin interface :o
I know, I know.. it isn't possible without a source hack :/
-
so i CAN configure the controls for smash tv so that one joystick is essentially acting as two? how would i do this?
-
Basically, I think he just means to configure the one stick to do both stick functions in MAME.
Push TAB and go into "Input this game" Now, for the keys that correspond to the "fire" in different directions, simply make them up, down, left, right, etc (whatever your sticks are configured to.) That should do the trick.
-
well i made it so that you fire and move at the same time like you said, but that wasnt very authentic. so i made it so that you move with (right now, arrow keys since my cab isnt finished yet) arrow keys and fire with other buttons. that was a little harder but requires more skill which is nice.

What other games use 2-joysticks per player? You have me thinking that maybe I should get another joystick or two for my setup...

crazy climber and crazy climber 2

Isn't toobin 2 joysticks, too?
Don't forget robotron.
I set the above games up so the player 2 joystick acts as the right stick as was mentioned previously. Just can't do multiplayer.

no, 4 buttons.

Ohh, I gotta reconfigure it and try it that way!

I personally have a 2p cp with 4 sticks....the sticks on the right side of the buttons is wired to buttons 3, 4, 5, and 6.
I wrote a controler.ini file for 2 8 way which I use for all the 2 stick games......Robotron, Smash TV, Crazy Climber, Total Carnage, Cloak and Dagger, Black Widow, ect, ect, ect.
That seems to have worked the best for me.
