Post by: njay on July 21, 2009, 12:48:48 pm
Hi All,

i am working off and on for the past 2 years on this conversion
still to do:

1.Paint
2.Illuminated buttons for the x-aracde
3. spraypaint the monitor you see the gray under the bezel
4. add another coin mech
5. light the marquee and replace it by something better

here are some pics to follow:

Running with the working hantarex mtc 900 which has died on me now:

Cool beans!

Got a couple of questions if I may why another coin slot and is that a dedicated light in the computer area?

The idea of the light seems like a good idea would keep me from juggling a flash light while working on something.

OMG, a woman who likes killer instinct, tell me you're not married  :applaud:

looks good, are you gonna add some plexi or glass for the monitor?

Looks good! You should stil be able to get rid of the last remnants of the mouse cursor though, if that's your need.

Check out this thread for more info:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=89086.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=89086.0)

I've got my cursor completely hidden, with a custom boot screen. I've set Mamewah as my shell, so I boot straight to my FE -- after a pretty cool XP startup screen, of course. No cursors anywhere.

Start-up time to game time is somewhere in the area of 30 seconds, but I'll time it to make sure.

I'll see if I can get a video of it to share.

yeah the light is dedicated it switches on when i open the door the 220v coming inside the cab i split one for a wall plug and splited to the light fixture

i must add another coin slot because the coin in for mame is on my left flipper button and my coin voor visual pinball on the two player button

one coin slot for mame one for Vp

yeah she even helped installing the bezel she has a steady hand

i would add some plexi how can i mount that?
if you have tips that would be cool?

btw are you the same beretta as on the GOT forums?

Sorry for the double post but when i type long messages the message input field goes crazy with IE 8

ow yeah for people wondering why i kept the original coin input above my new coin slot well it like some old stuff still on the cap it's really an old pinball champ from 95

tommorow:

im going to get 2 types of paint one black for the two metal parts holding the x-arcade
and 1 for the crt bezel to paint black also...
pics to come   :tool:

no that must be someone else.

well you could use screws.. but from what i've seen usually the plexi or glass slides up into a gap between the monitor and the wood that makes up the where the speakers are..

the bottom part would extend down below the top of hte CP and the glass would sit on a little ledge.

then the CP would be clamped down securing itself and also the glass.

not sure if that would work in your cas, but you could probably some a piece of metal at the bottom for retaining it, assuming you have a gab at the top of the monitor to still slide it up.

Ok, as promised, a video of my startup sequence. I didn't hit the power button until about 10 seconds in, so the time from boot to game is about 35-40 seconds.

Sorry about the stutter, I was logged in via VNC, so I'm sure I caused some network jittering.

important question before i order:

if you look at my cab will a ems top gun II work? because of the monitor angle?

thanks

Your angle might be a tad much for lightgun games.

damn my thought was if i backuped 1 meter from the cab i could hit the screen from that distance...

anyone else has the same opinion as ginsu?

You'll have difficulty with tracking and accuracy at that angle, with any distance. Best try for a different solution, or try and lift the monitor angle if possible.

The bootskin came from WinCustomize (http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?libid=32&search=harley), their library of XP bootscreens is at over 6,000 and counting. The link should bring you to the Harley skins.

well not be a nag or anything but the emc topgun works with a sensor type bar
if i could position it somehow to it reads the strange angle... i have seen more cabs with a monitor at an angle with a lightgun... damnit i want my time crisis fix  :blah:

Correct, but you're wanting to aim a gun reading one distance at a screen showing a different distance. 0° standing and pointing, while the monitor appears to be around 35°. Your shots won't line up with what you're aiming at (unless you plan on standing on a stool and shooting down at your screen). Also, the sensors might not pick up on the lightbars properly.

Yeah, and those have a mirror correcting the issue. You don't.
