Title: buying laminate
Post by: vusteveii on July 09, 2003, 10:40:08 pm
I just went to a local hardware shop and looked at laminates, they wanted 70 bucks for a 4x8 sheet of black laminate, that seems like way too much, what does this stuff usually cost?

It cost me $1.60 sq ft here in Redmond, WA plus $15 "handling" to have it delivered to the store.

I ordered 2  4x8 sheets.  Cost me just under $120.  Ya, its really expensive.

Yep 44 bucks=tax for a 4x8 sheet at Home Depots on the east coast. If you live near NYC area then I think Snaaake eh em I mean Snaaack ;)  knows of a distributor who sells it even cheaper.

damn 14 bucks, it would be far cheaper to have them ship it to me, care to post their number?  I arrange a UPS pickup pretty easily.  What type of place is it?  Maybe i could find someone similiar locally(nebraska).

It says "premium surface".
Thats about it.
I think its the exact same thing home depot sells for a lot more.
yeah sounds little (http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid59/pb337717377f4479345547b0ee5c1b60b/fc5e9635.gif) but its great imho.

Steve,
I was able to get Wilson Art from a local distributor for $1.53/sq foot. Home Depot wanted $2.00/sq foot. You just need to find out who the construction people in your area get it from. I called them up and told them I was a "private contractor". They even delivered for free! I was able to order any size sheet, so I could get exactly what I needed. They brought it to my house for free the next day.  The place I used was called Reico http://www.reico.com (http://www.reico.com).

Yeah, I noted the link was broken.  I got all this info off Google.

I have no idea if they are still in business.  I did list a phone number, though...

Don't know if anyone cares but I work just south of Westfield so I decided to give these guys a call.  They said they do not do any work with laminate.  :(

Guess the name was just a coincidence.

Regards.

I live in St. Louis and called the New York guy and he told me that I'm not in his Region and that I'ld have to call Parkwood Chicago (847-577-8001) in Chicago (duh).   I gave them a call and they said they didn't have ANYTHING that cheap...I don't know why the New York guy can't just sell it and ship it, but whatever.
I'm just posting this to let anyone in the Midwest know who they should call.
Also, the lady I talked to at Parkwood Chicago told me their cheap American made stuff is made by Panelyte.  So I've been doing searches on that.  The Stuff looks good.  It's just not imported from Italy.  If anyone finds anything super cheap like that $14 for 4x8, please post!
Thanks
Matt
