Title: Help me build my own spinner!
Post by: hellothere123 on July 17, 2009, 09:09:18 pm: I'd love if someone would direct me to some instructions on building my own spinner.

From my searches I've looked for I see a bunch of older guides, just wondering which one is most recommended.

And no I don't want to buy a spinner right now...thanks!

If you mean the Arcade Stupidity link, unless it has moved somewhere else, that link doesn't work anymore.

Post by: jholman76 on July 18, 2009, 01:06:40 am: meh, this reminds me I was going to write up a tutorial on how to make a nice spinner from the old Maxtor "slim" hard drive, a microsoft mouse, some super glue, and a project box.

sorry.. I'll see what I can muster up. Its quite easy and doesnt involve much more than clever mounting to the CP.

yeah, that's the one i used. it was pretty simple. but it is hard to find a hard drive that will work with that method. when it was time to build one for my friend, we used a similar method, using the center spindle from the hard drive, with an optical mouse PCB mounted below it

(NEVER USE THESE AS STORAGE DRIVES.. THEY ALL FAIL)

In the middle of the spindle, there is a shiny spot. If there is a shiny silver sticker on the middle of the spindle, you got a winner. If it is solid metal... sorry.

The guts of the hack. I have some other mice that have much smaller boards, but this works just fine. notice the cables to the left for the mouse buttons. nice to do for future expansion, if you want

Post by: Bluedeath on July 20, 2009, 04:38:00 am: ive done the arcade stupidity hack nd worked fine but i was disappointed by the low resolution of the mouse i used, I'm thinking to build a bigger opticall wheel (wht more teeth) to overcome the problem.
