What else should I do while in Portland?
-
You're going to Ground Kontrol.....what else do you need? ;D

Yeah, no kidding! She was going to surprise me, but finally had to tell me after I kept bugging her about going there. I've never been there before. Going to record some arcade ambience while I'm there too since a friend loaned me his little quadraphonic recorder thingy. :)

Very cool. I like the arcade ambiance project but I would love to hear what you record. IIRC the arcade ambience stuff was constructed. I was thinking about doing the same when I go to funspot next week.

Yes, it was constructed. It's too artificial sounding and busy for my taste.

Say hello to Major Tom for me!

Nice Bowie reference!!! Or, umm, is there someone there named that? :)
I love the Venture Bros episode with all the Major Tom stuff. :)

Yeah, it is a tad too busy. I've never been a huge fan of it, but I appreciate Andy's effort. I still use it in my frontend, since there really aren't any better alternatives that I'm aware of.

Ground Kontrol was AWESOME!!! If you ever get a chance, go. It was nice when they kicked the kids out at 5PM and then stayed open until 2:30AM. :)
I did get quite a bit of audio from in there. I'll have to go through it all at some point and edit out kids screaming, parts with overly loud music, etc. I think there's quite a bit of good stuff there. I have it as a quadraphonic recording. . I can keep it that way while editing and then mix down to a stereo version and possibly make a surround version too in case anyone is set up for that. Will likely be a while before I get to this though.
Cool thing is that they were actually playing Andy's arcade ambiance tracks out the front door to entice people to come in! :)

What else should you do? ANYTHING the wife wants.
-
My wife and I just went down to Portland yesterday to pick up my grail pinball machine - Eight Ball Deluxe. We got a late start and didn't get home until 10:30. We were way too hot and traffic stressed to stop by GK. I've only been there once, but it was a blast.

Paladin/Gary/anyone: LMK if you're making a trip to GK. I live 20-30 minutes from there and don't get over there often enough, so I need an excuse to go. Meeting up with people is always fun. :)

All this talk about GK is making me realize I need to make some trips as well. I work a few blocks from it, so I might do some lunch breaks there sometime soon. I love all the pins upstairs!

Cool that you got the pinball you were looking for!
Going to GK didn't help my wife's desire for a pinball machine at all. It put Star Trek:TNG and the Lord of the Rings pinball machines up on the top of her wish list.
