Title: Possible to top-mount a J-stick and still use lexan / plexiglass?

I'm considering purchasing two J-sticks from ultimarc and I've heard a lot of people consider them to be very "low", so to fix this they mount them from the top.

If I did that, would I still be able to use lexan or plexiglass?  ...or what if I used black marble formica?
