I've been searching the forums for a few weeks now and I just can't find the answer I'm looking for (though I'm pretty sure it's here...somewhere). I am trying to use MaLa as my frontend for a MAME cabinet that I hope to build. There are wonderfull layouts that I have seen pics of and downloaded several of them. I can't figure out how to make them look right. I finally figured out the snaps thing where you hit the F12 key and then rename it and put it in snaps folder. I was so proud! That being said...I can't figure out the rest...control images...cabinet images...background images (pretty much all of my layouts that I have downloaded just look blank and on the pics that have like flames or whatever). I have a layout called 1942 that looks pretty sweet cause the controls and cabinet change and there is a nice background...but it just looks blank with a screen shot on mine :banghead:.
Sorry if I started to ramble a bit there. If anyone has advice for me it would be much appreciated. I'll try to keep the noobish questions to a minimal from here on in.
Thanks.

You can look online for the marquee, cabinet, cpanel, etc. and put the pictures (correctly named) into the corresponding folders.
KLOV.org has a bunch, though not always good quality.

Do you mean you have a blank screen with just a screen shot? Use the MalaLayout.exe to edit the mll files to make sure you are pointing to the location of your background and not the person who created the layout. As far as the rest go in Mala under MAME config, Pictures and Videos Tab you point to your snap, marquee, etc folders there. For 1942 I believe that the flyers (hanging on the wall) is definable 1. You should be able to determine that from the layout editor. Also make sure you have the layout folder set in MaLa under GUI, layout Tab.
There is a section in the MaLa Wiki (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Mala_Layout) that talks about all of this.
Another good place for images is MAMEWorld (http://mameworld.info/). On the right hand side way down on the bottom is a section called Art Files.
Good Luck
