Title: Need some help, new to restoring.

I know how to set up mame, it's not hard at all. But like I mentioned in another thread I'd like to restore my Joust cabinet but have never worked on something like this before. I'm might be getting the rom board soon but what other boards do I need. I understand wiring, my GF has great soldering skills. But I could use a step by step on how these games work, I've never done anything like this before.

I know ppl get upset because of the search option, but I've been here for a while trying to find a complete explanation and haven't found much. If anyone can walk me through this it would be greatly GREATLY appreciated!

Have you looked in the [Wiki (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/)]? There is lots of good links in there for restorations, electronics etc etc.

The Joust manual may be of use to you too. You can download it from [here (http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/ARCADE/A-J/)].

Have a good look though that lot if you havent already. I'm sure it will answer some of your questions.

Before you go buying up Williams boards, consider using one of jrok's SYSFPGA boards instead -- they are a wonderful alternative to the sometimes intimidating, often aggravating world of Williams boardsets. I replaced the Williams boards in my Joust cocktail with one of jrok's boards and it was the right choice after years of sometimes painful maintenance and troubleshooting.

Yea I think this will be the way I'm going to go. It's cheaper then just joust alone, I like that it has other games I enjoy and I like the look of the Multi-Williams cabinets as well.
