Title: Atari CX80 Trak-Ball seems to be modded???
Post by: scorp.ius on June 29, 2009, 06:40:30 pm
Hi!

I have got an Atari CX80 for my 2600

But unfortunately it does not work properly. I tried missile comand (in JS setting of course) but the cursor just goes wild.

the right Button does not work at all, the left one does.

I opened the device and now I wonder if it has been modded for some reason...

there is a cut on the circuit board (see pic)
and where is written "blue" on the circuit board, there is a black wire soldered to.

can some one make a pictur of his CX80?
or tell me, what mod this can be?

I want to mod it back to use the trakball on my 2600  :dunno

It is possible that the hardware was already malfunctioning ans there was an attempt to fix it that has now gone bad too. Much early Atari hardware was temperemental so chances are the PCB could be buggered anyway from the off.

Try re-soldering that connection to see if that was a fix that has now maybe cracked. Failing that, strip those suspect wires off and try to bridge the scored track.

I dont know how it should be...

I can bridge the cut on the circuitboard of course, but which wire belongs to which solderpoint...

in another forum one said perhaps this trakball was modded to work on an Atari ST as a mouse.

the right button is modded too, so that could be the point!

But I cant find a Tutorial about modding a CX80 to work as an Atari ST mouse.

does anybody know something about that?

OR can you take a picture of your 2600 CX80. so I can see how everything is soldered.

Maybe it was at some point converted for a USB hack:

but maybe you can find out more over at AtariAge as those people seem to really be into their ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---...
