Title: Volume issues on NBA Jam in a UMK3 machine
Post by: padgettl on June 28, 2009, 07:00:19 pm
Hi, I just bought an NBA Jam jamma board to go in my UMK3 machine.  there are issues with the sound, the voulme pot that came with it broke on day 1. if I touch the 2 sound wires together it is really loud!  I have another voulme pot, but I don't think it works.  Is there any way to turn the sould down or do I need to buy a new volume pot?  do you know where I can buy one?  I looked on ebay and didn't find any?

Thanks alot, Lyle

Go into the settings for the NBA JAM and you can adjust the volume from there.

I went into all of the settings and none of them have a volume adjust.  There is a sound test one, but obviously when I run that there is no sound.  I have pushed the 2 volume buttons next to the service menu button on the coin door, but those do nothing.  On UMK3, they do bring up a voulme menu.  Not sure why it doesn't work on NBA Jam.

you need the volume pot. If you bridge the wire you get 100% volume you have to replace the pot if you want to adjust it. I have an MKII cab and I had NBA Jam in it, its now in my Killer Instinct cab but the same rule applies, the volume controls by the coin door dont do jack, you need the pot.

I'd just made an assumption based on the other Midway games

Thanks for your help!  Do you know where I can buy the volume pot and which one I should get?  I searched on ebay and came up empty.

Thanks.

probably can salvage one off of a set of PC speakers or an old radio.

It's listed in the manual as a 50K potentiometer...... the old pot should also be marked in some fashion.
Not sure what Radio Shack carries anymore as far as pots go, but worth a look.

Just some locations are better than others when it comes to "parts".
So you almost have to just go look. (and I don't mean online)

I've found that the locally owned franchise stores are better at having that stuff than the company run stores.

Of course, this is coming from the perspective of two Okies. There are still plenty of small Radio Shack stores around here (I don't know about everywhere else).
