Title: How to set up ePSXe 1.7.0 in mala
Post by: atomikbohm on June 28, 2009, 05:05:04 pm
I've been trying to set up the new ePSXe 1.7.0 in Mala for about a week and am having no luck.  Can anyone help?

...for the details...

I can get ePSXe 1.7.0 to load and run images through the GUI no problem.  I've used both the ePSXe image loader and Daemon tools lite.  But when I try to do the same though a command line (and Mala) I a "EPSXE DEMO not found" error.   :banghead:

My System details:
Intel i7 920 (not overclocked ... yet)
Gigabyte GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R Mo Bo
Ge-force 9600 GT
6 GB RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium (64 Bit)
1 TB Seagate HDD

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like ePSXe is not finding the cd image.  What is the command line for ePSXe that you are using in Mala?  Personally I love PSX and never have any problems within Mala running PS1 games.   If you search the Mala forum for epsxe and demo, you'll find where other people have had the same problem as you.

I'm using the Command Line preset for ePSXe that comes with Mala.  <-nogui -loadbin \"%path%\\%rom%.%ext%\"> with several variations.  :dunno

That double back slash in the command line is not supposed to be there.  If you search on epsxe in this Mala forum, you will find that Loadman already spotted that problem.  He'll probably see this and correct it in the presets if he hasn't already.  In the mean time, remove that extra back slash from the command line.

Edit:
Here is the thread in question:

Also if you want to have memory card support try this for command line in Mala:

-nogui -loadbin "%path%\%rom%.%ext%" -loadmemc0 "memcards\%rom%.mcr"

well now that I have removed the extra \'s from the command line I no longer get the "EPSXE DEMO not found" error.  But ePSXe now goes to a black screen when launched from Mala but not from the GUI, that still works perfect.  Any Ideas ??? ?

I would assume that I have my plugin's configured correctly as the GUI works.  Which leaves me with still another command line argument issue.  Is there any way to see which arguments the GUI uses?  Then modify them so that Mala can use them.  :dunno

Again thanks for any help

All of mine 'game files' for ePSxe are thrown in one folder with mala's rom extensions showing 'bin, iso, img' (with no quotes) - other than that I dunno -

if you mean command line arguments, ePSxe_en.txt in the Docs folder of 1.70 shows:

3.5. Command line options.

epsxe [options] [psx-exe]

(*) -lib                      : Loads the libps.exe, which is necessary for running several demos. You should have the file libps.exe in ePSXe's root directory.
 (*) -nocd                     : Disables the CD-Rom emulation. ( not recommended ! ;-) )
 (*) -sound/nosound            : Enable/Disable sound.
 (*) -xasound/-noxasound       : Enable/Disable XA sound.
 (*) -audiocd/noaudiocd        : Enable/Disable CDDA audio.
 (*) -forcespu/-noforcespu     : Enable/Disable SPU irq always ON.
(*) -cdtiming/-nocdtiming     : Enable/Disable CDR accurate timing. (Gran turismo 2, Legend of Legaia, Dragon Valor, Point Blank series ...)
 (*) -forcepad/-noforcepad     : Enable/Disable SIO irq always ON. (F4)
 (*) -memcard/-nomemcard       : Enable/Disable memcard emulation. (Track & Field)
 (*) -mdec/-nomdec             : Enable/Disable MDEC emulation.
 (*) -mdectiming/-nomdectiming : Enable/Disable MDEC accurate timing.
(*) -adjusttiming             : Enable on the fly re-adjust timing.
 (*) -oldtiming                : Uses pre-1.5.1 timing.
 (*) -fastboot/slowboot        : Fast/Slow boot cdrom (psx logo).
(*) -nogui                    : Disable internal GUI.
 (*) -ppf/-nppf                : Enable/Disable ppf patches.
 (*) -loadppf <file>           : Load ppf file.
 (*) -loadiso <file>           : Loads iso file (CloneCD/Cdrwin).
 (*) -loadcheat <file>         : Loads a internal cheat file.
 (*) -loadmemc0 <file>         : Map file to memcard 0.
 (*) -loadmemc1 <file>         : Map file to memcard 1.
 (*) -ssv0                     : Save sstates version v.0 (1.4.0 or less compatible)
(*) -mouseN                   : Enable mouse emulation. (number of port)
(*) -analogN                  : Enable analog pad emulation (number of pad)

Sorry nukedawg I ment to ask if there is any way of finding which command line arguments are being used by my ePSXe GUI that allows the roms to load.

Or, ... Would you be willing to post your command line Nukedawg?  Please?

ah I see.

-nogui -loadbin "%path%\%rom%.%ext%" -loadmemc0 "memcards\%rom%.mcr"

that the command line I am using for 1.7.0 with Mala 1.04 (1.0.4.5). I also use Pete's OpenGl 1.77 for plugins inside epsxe and autoload PPL files.

Thanks for posting your command link nukedawg but I'm still having the same problem.  Mala loads the ePSXe emulator the screen goes black and then .... nothing it just stays black.

Thinking that I was just being impatient I go up, got a snack watched a 1/2 hour show and came back and still black screen.  <sigh> What am I missing here? Anyone have any ideas?

... that is unless ... nukedawg do you have any pre and/or post commands?

Thanks again to all for the help.  I get the feeling that I'm almost there.

Any chance some of your other settings are wrong?   For example, rom path or rom extension.  If you could post screenshots of the ePSXe configuration in Mala, someone may spot something?

not  using any pre or post commands - and I got mine set up by just following Loadman's addendum to UncleT's setup doc located on Malafe.net
http://malafe.net/files/download/MalaEmuSetup_av1.doc (http://malafe.net/files/download/MalaEmuSetup_av1.doc)

well except I used 1.7.0

I'll post screen shots of my ePSXe config tabs when I get home tonight.

Your command line under your execution tab in mala should read:

-nogui -loadbin "%path%\%rom%.%ext%"

Your Rom extension should read:

bin,iso,img

I hope that helps.

This post was helpful when I was setting up espxe in Mala, thanks all.

I have a question though.  I wonder how I can support the changing disc features via Mala?

I know I know, why on earth what I want to play Final Fantasy 7 in an arcade cabinet.  But considering I do want to do a console project at some point, and I like Mala an awful lot, I'm interested in hearing some expert opinion on the matter.
