Title: Anyone Familiar with AAE?
Post by: Gavica on June 25, 2009, 05:33:45 pm
I saw this on youtube the other day and downloaded it, it plays the vector games with the same roms as mame, but for some reason they look like much brighter? anyone else familiar with this?

Yeah. It's pretty badass. It needs a beefy system with a decent video card.

Well, you need a semi-decent card at least. My old P4 2.8ghz runs it fine - but the Nvidia 6200 in it doesn't; even overclocked and four pipelines unlocked, if that truly worked, didn't help. A 6800 though is just fine (which, if one worked with Advancemame, I'd use it....alas).

The new version, (if I can ever get it done and posted) reduces the video requirement by about a factor of 100.   :applaud:

No one ever told me that passing the exact same uniform variable to a shader every frame caused it to recompile and reupload the shader.  :banghead:

BUT: The new version uses non-power-of-two textures and opengl 2.0, so a newer card is still required.

Oh well.
