Has anyone gotten MAME Gauntlet DL and/or L to run properly? One runs fine for a bit then locks up on the mountain, the other just sits at a black screen for me.
Are these games worth even worrying about?

One of them is not working, I think DL. The other one plays fine for me. It slows down a little on my 4Ghz, so I think a 4.5 would probably eliminate the remaining issues. Too bad I'm broke. If you do not have at least a 4Ghz, I think it will lock up.

Err... according to maws (http://maws.mameworld.info/maws/) and mametesters (http://www.mametesters.org/), both games are running, but each has two or three critical bugs.
Legends (bugs#: 01991, 00886 (http://www.mametesters.org/view.php?id=886), 00885) has one that is described as: "If you choose mountain journey MAME crashes in second stage". Same as you say.
Dark Legacy (bugs#: 01544, 00888, 00887 (http://www.mametesters.org/view.php?id=887)) bugs aren't as big or as many as Legends, but one basically says don't run in VGA mode or it crashes when it starts to load the game. Are you in "VGA mode", whatever that means? (My computer is not fast enough to run either game, so I haven't tried either; both need 4+ Ghz cpus, as mentioned above.)
For finding game emulation status, Maws is a good starting point, as it lists some bugs, but mametesters has much more details and is more up to date AFA bug status goes.

Gauntlet Legends run fine on my PC (Q9450 Quad Core @ 3.2GHZ, 4gbs DDR3 @ 1333mhz, ATI 4870 512mb). The only issues I get is that sometimes the sound stutters and that you really can't get past the second mountain stage. I'm in the process of wiring a Dreamcast into my cabinet just to play that and Rez... you can't have a MAME machine without Gauntlet :). You don't really need to worry about these games, they're just fun to have.

Gauntlet's only worth playing if you have at least two people. Also, while a neat game, I don't consider it necessary.
