Title: WG U2000 flickering brightness/contrast fault
Post by: Greylights on June 22, 2009, 12:58:17 pm
Hi,

I'm currently working on a Mame cabinet project, and so far by searching these and other forums I've been able to solve all the problems I've met. A fault with my monitor has occurred however and I cannot find any similar problems reported.

I'm using a WG U2000 monitor, UK electrical standards.

I linked the monitor to a PC (using a VGA breakout cable and Soft15kHz), and for several weeks I was getting a great picture and everything was fine.

A few days ago, as I was playing, the screen flickered and became dim and dark. The picture is still stable, crisp and sharp, but the colour is entirely washed out.

Adjusting the drives/bias does not resolve this.  Every so often, as I touch the neckboard, the screen flickers back to normal, but then goes bad again straight away.

Is this problem pathognomonic of a well-known issue? Is a cap kit likely to solve it?

Many thanks, any advice appreciated.

(BTW I'm a newb, totally inexperienced, learning as I go. Apologies if I don't understand something obvious.)

Since you noted that touching the neckboard had an effect on the screen, I would start there.
Check it closely for bad solder joints especially on larger components, like possibly a resistor for the screen voltage.
