Until recently I was using MAMEUI32 0.122u1
this quite an old version like from 2 years ago.
So I download the newest version and copy the roms over, but several games are not working, for example 1941, 1942, Punisher, and many other say:
buf1 not found
ioa1 not found
prg2 not found
rom1 not found
but they work perfectly fine on the old MAMEUI32.
Anyone knows what could be the problem?

I use mame and not mameui so I could be way off base with this answer but you may have to get newer versions of the rom. Looking at Maws I see that:
1941 - Counter Attack (World) - last change(s) .126u5
1942 (Revision B) - last change(s) .124u5 .124u4
1942 (Revision A) - last change(s) .124u4
The Punisher (World 930422) - last change(s) .127 .126u5
etc...
Just a thought.

Those appear to be cps1 games, recently a bunch of proms was added to each game, even though they are not used internally. You will need to update your collection.
-
Every time you upgrade MAME you need to upgrade the ROMs also.
-
I upgraded the roms and all is working perfect now, thanks guys

That's an exaggeration. More like "Every time you upgrade MAME you also need to check and see if any of the romsets you use were also upgraded."
Only about 1% of the romsets change between major versions. Also, a single game might be updated multiple times over multiple mame versions; IOW, if a romset changed recently, it has a higher chance of changing in the near future (because it's being actively worked on). This also means that if you jump, say, 10 versions of mame, you'll probably have less than 10% of the romsets need to be changed. (I'm talking generally, with rounding, so don't use these these as hard fact, always true, numbers; but they're okay guidelines.)

I'm looking to move from .124u2 to .132u1. Is there a way to see what I need to update besides looking at 124>125....125>126....126>127.... etc?
I noticed a lot work, but some of my favs (SF2CE) is not showing up.
Thanks.

sf2ce is also a cps1, so you need to upgrade your roms.

That info is in mame.dat is it not? I wonder if there is an app that can pull that info out to show you what has been updated since version x. Will romlister do that?

I'm not going to worry about it.. just going to update to the .132 romset. Its enough work just to sort through the roms I even want. Too bad there isnt an app that can read my mind and delete the games I dont want!

Does anyone know if any of the Rom managers out there will this now?

Only about 1% of the romsets change between major versions.
I agree with that but the problem is not if you have to update 2 games or 50 games, its the fact that you have to check all your games each time.

Sorry, but a nOOB question, but upgrading ROMS, you mean downloading the games again, and installing them into the newest verison of MAME? Or is there a way to actually pick the rom, and update it to the newest version?
-
You need to get the newer updated version of the ROM. Can't say where to get them though, against forum rules. ;D

That's all I needed to know!

Early on, there were a few attempts to enable auto-updating of roms. Arcade@home (now long defunct) was one of them. Perhaps in another several years.
