I decided to build a Mini Multi Arcade Game.
I will be putting in a Happy Fish 302 in 1 PCB
VGA to RGB converter
JAMMA wiring harness
Power Supply and
2 Fans
I am making this cab a single player . So 1 happ joystick and 9 buttons should do it.
Edit... Just thought i would mention this is the fist cab i have built from scratch.
-
I got my measurments from my Killer Istinct 2 Cab. I Cut the sides out of 3/4 inch MDF.
-
I used 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 pine (left over pickets from my deck) to frame out the inside of the mini cab.
-
I then added the top , bottom and back.
-
I then test fit the LCD ,control panel and speaker piece.
-
Makeing the back panel was easy. I cut it into 3 pieces and drilled holes for the fans. I also added a standard arcade lock.
-
I cut the Plexiglas and control panel to size and droped them in.
-
I cut out the speaker hole, and put a speaker in from my KI 2 Cab. I also cut the plexi for the marque.
-
I drilled the holes for the control panel and cut my grill to size.
-
Looking good so far :applaud:
Currently starting on my second one and always nice to see what other folks are doing.
Are you planning on laminate for the sides or simply paint?

I plan on just painting it black . Black on black actually with a piano finish. I would love to see some of your work. Gotta link?

I can't wait to see how you do this. I tried a piano finish on one of my cabs - the effort was worth it but man was it long and time-consuming. Your cab is looking great!
-
Just thought I throw this in here for those who haven't seen it. Gives some pretty good instructions on how to get rid of the "orange peel" look and get a spanking nice finish. I believe he used a lacquer paint and clear coat if I remember correctly, described later on in some post responses:

p.s. Great start on the bartop too! Love these little suckers!
@ javeryh: Man I thought my daughter had a pink bedroom! ;D Great job on that cab too!

Looking good. How long has it taken so far?
-
Well it has taken me a couple of months because i only have a few hours a week to work on it.
-
I know that feeling well!!
-
Over the weekend i primed ( 2 coats) and painted (1 coat)
Because its oil based paint i will have to wait 16 hours at least between coats.
I was initially gonna have a piano finish but now decided against it. (to much time and effort)
So I'm just gonna paint it a semi gloss black.. (3 coats) Sanding between coats. Hopefully it will turn out well.
-
That semi gloss black, is it an enamel?
-
I'm not sure.. I just asked for semi gloss black oil based paint. It doesn't matter now anyways, because i did not like the look of semi gloss. I decided to sand it down to the wood and re prime it. I will be painting it again with black latex satin finish. Hopefully i will like that finish better.
-
Finally i put the cab together. I installed the LED's and 2 fans I also mounted the LCD and installed the power supply, 302-1 PCB and the LCD converter. Fired her up and started playing.. I still need to install the vinyl in the marquee and paint the plexy ( hiding the borders of the LCD)
-
I put the marquee in today
-
Nice and clean with a decent sized control panel. :applaud:
-
Thanks.. What do you mean by decent size? Too small ,too big? It is 17 inches wide 10 inches deep. I felt that it was perfectly perportioned. Any comment's you have are appreciated.
-
Not too big or too small. It looks just right to me.
-
Sweet job dude. What game is showing in post #20?

Great.... I'm very happy with the size... Looks great plays well...

That is my menu screen for the 302in1 PCB. It has all the games in sections IE action, fighting. puzzle etc or all. It saves time by not having to scroll threw all 302 games.
-
No questions or comments?
Huh... i thought there would be more intrest..

I think you just completed it so fast that people haven't had a time to react yet. ;)
Nice cab btw!
-
Thanks. I was starting to think people didn't like it..
-
looks good.
Personally, I like a bit more color on my cabs, usually with the t-molding and\or side art.
Building anything next?
-
Where did you get your 302 board from? Do you got anything else planned for the outside? I'm diggin your setup. I built a 2 player bartop, but now I want to do a small 1 player for my room. I'm looking to do an actual jamma board this time. Great work.

I agree... But I'm really liking the black on black... i still have to black out the plexi (hiding the monitor) and put on the grill hiding the speaker hole.. I am also going to change the marquee to something with less colour to complete the package. This what i was thinking... What do you guys think ?

Thanks man, much appreciated... In my opinion the jamma PCB set up is much easier then Mame. Its simple, jamma harness power supply monitor and PCB. But a Mame set up has way more advantages IE thousands of game , music player etc. I got the PCB from arcadomania shop (link removed) I was gonna build a 2 player but i wanted to keep it small.

Please, as per the rules and saint's requests, no links to sites selling illegal boards.
-
Oops sorry link removed
-
how does the power go into that board? you coming from a CPU power supply or an arcade one or is there some sort of AC adapter

I used this power supply.. I think it can be used for anything its also powering my LCD
-
Where did you get your PSU from?
-
That looks great! Did you take pictures actually installing the hardware inside, the lcd the boards ?

I built the machine by myself, so i did not take pictures of the cab being put together. I can take a picture with the back off if you like.
-
Sure that would be great thinking of going the way you did to make a bar top my self.

I'm happy to answer ant questions you have..

Here is a pic with the back off..

I tried painting the plexi glass to hide the gaps in the cab . I taped it off well and covered areas i did want to paint. It didn't work well . The paint bled threw the tape and got everywhere. Now I have to cut my plexi again..
-
Did you spray it all at once in one thick coat or something? I've never had it bleed through like that by spraying in several thin coats.
-
Not to pile on but make sure you use good painters tape. Worth the extra few bucks.
-
Maybe i did spray it on a little thick.. Also it wasn't the greatest painters tape.. I appreciate your suggestions and will try again this weekend..
-
I painted my plexi glass again today and it came out great!.. Thanks Ginsu Victum and IG-88 for the advice...
I installed the speaker grill and am officially finished.. Thanks everyone for all your help..

Looks great!! Did you do the better tape and thinner coats both then?
-
I applied thinner coats and used better tape.. It really helped
-
Man this Bar Top is great.... :D
-
very good.
-
Thanks
-
:applaud: I really like this bartop. I didnt read the discription until viewing it at least 5 times, and was wondering why the one I'm building looks slightly similar. I tweak the dimensions from an MK arcade so that explains the similar looks. Very cool I hope mine turns out as good as yours.
how tall, wide, and deep is the cab? and what size montior is that?
Mine so far is 24"high, about 16.5"wide, and 20" deep hoping a 17" monitor is going to fit very snug.
-
Hey Pete, how do you have your plexi bezel mounted to the cab?, I see the two holes drilled in the bottom of the bezel, but what is keeping it from moving around? :dizzy:, pictures would be appreciated if possible, thanks.
