I am just curious how many people use hitotext with their frontend, and what frontend they use it with.
-
Just noticed this, for those who are unaware of HiToText, a link to the HiToText thread in the software forum can be found in my sig.

I still don't understand what the purpose of this program? (sorry I'm a little slow)
I think it makes all high scores into a compatible format, but then what?
-
With Hitotext you can see the high-score entries in the frontend.
You don't have to start the game, the program reads the data from the hi file (or nvram) of the game.
So when you select a game with hyperspin using the wheel , the theme will play and on top of that you get to see your high score(s). :P
You'll know exactly what to aim for even before starting the game.

this looks like a really cool project..somehow i missed this one. does this work with MaLa?

I don't believe they've integrated HiToText into Mala. Only Hyperspin, GameEx, and CPWizard have support for HiToText right now as far as I know.
Edit: However it is pretty FE friendly, all a developer has to do is send commands to the exe. I imagine if FE devs got enough requests to see it used, they'd incorporate it like Tom, Ben, and Bill have for their FEs.

I should probably have a look at this in Mamewah (although not had any requests). Presumably when you select a game it runs the .exe and retrieves the scores from a text file or something?

It actually extracts the hi-scores from the hi files.
(you need a hi-patched mame for it, but can't think of anyone who doesn't want to keep his hiscores !)
If you want the exact details you can PM Fyrecrypts I guess.
Sure would be nice to have Mamewah use it as well.

It requires a hiscore-enabled MAME, it reads .hi files or .nv files if the scores were saved in nvram.
HiToText uses command line standard out, and doesn't generate a text file, though you could pipe it to a text file if you wanted to. Feed it a command and listen for the results. GameEx and CPWizard have menu options to view the hi scores, and HyperSpin will display them over themes. They use the -l flag to get a list of games that are supported, and then I'm assuming read the scores of the game as requested if it's in that list of games.

He Minwah,
I think I spotted a request......
Is there a way to incorporate HiToText in some fashion in to MAMEWAH? I use MAMEWAH for my cabs...

I have read some posts on this on the HyperSpin forum and plan to try to incorporate it once I have HyperSpin up and running with all my emulators.
Does anyone have any pictures of what this looks like when displayed? I would like to see HyperSpin examples the most, but curious to see what it looks like in other front ends as well.
Thanks

Just the one attached to the first post of the HiToText thread.
