Seeing as Killer Instinct is the only game I wish to play in MAME format, maybe someone can provide some advise on the best possible monitor I should buy?
Analog?
Digital?
Brand?
Model?
I would need something that would be compatable with my current system which includes a Gforce 8800 Ultra video card. I'm guessing I would need a converter/connector of some sort as well to be able to run an old monitor on a top of the line video card.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers!

The best monitor would be a standard res arcade CRT, since thats what Killer Instinct originally ran on.
If you are looking to run a dedicated Killer Instinct setup via MAME, read up on whether the 8800 supports Soft 15k in the Monitor/Video section of this forum.
I'd actually rather just use an ArcadeVGA for a dedicated setup with an arcade monitor though. The 8800 is overkill for MAME and actually complicates running arcade hardware.

It won't be dedicated.
Basically this PC is used for everything, from business to personal, and when I have friends over I'd like to grab the CRT from the closet, snag up the X-Arcade, and fire it up.

I just searched that thread you were talking about, a little tough to find what I'm looking for without wasting an hour. So I did some searches via GOOGLE, and nothing came up in terms of it being a 15khz compatible card.

1080p LCD HDTV flat panel.
They are magic because you can just plug your PC into them without dieing >:D

I misunderstood your question, sorry. If its your all around PC, I don't think it's worth all the trouble.
-
Do you plan on watching TV on this monitor too? Or watching downloaded episodes?
If KI and MAME are your #1 priority and desktop as second then I would recommend a high quality PC CRT.

No Jack, I have dual 22" monitors connected to my PC at the moment, and a third out put on my video card which is S-Video. Do these old CRT monitors have an S-video input on the back?
In fact Jack, I just found out that MAME kinda sucks for KI, it actually has input delay. And it is missing some of the frames too, it's not as fluid and well animated as it would be on an authentic cabinet.
That being said, I'm starting to think that a "Jamma In A Box" style setup maybe best suited for me. (That's if I can even find it as the production is out of service now, and I can't find one anywhere online).
pinballwizard79, your suggestion kind of defeats the purpose of what I'm trying to achieve, which is 100% clear picture. So unless that 320x240 image gets expanded significantly once it hits my 46" plasma, I would rather not play with a tiny 640x480 'ish size image in the middle of my 46" TV. And if I stretch to fit, then I'm back at square one, a blurry game at full screen.

Cluster, you may want to look into upscaling devices. I think there is one called an XRGB. The guys over at Neo-geo.com use these to make Neo Geo games look good on their high res monitors. You might want to have a look around that message board or make a thread there. Look around shoryuken.com too.
Yes, MAME can have input delay depending on the version and settings, and so will any other emulator. There's nothing that feels as smooth and good as a real board when it comes to fighting games.

You would probably want a super gun. There's a nice lookin one on ebay for $369.99. Sorry I don't know how to post links.
-
Yea, I'm currently looking at superguns.
Still uncertain what way to go, I'm getting feedback from someone who says they can get the game to look pretty close to the original on a 22" LCD. I'll see what happens with that.
If that doesn't work out, then I'll just end up buying a supergun, jamma pcb + flash off ebay and go from there.
