anybody have results on mounting this joystick (Ms. Pacman/Galaga) on a wood panel. the happs site says it is for a metal panel, and the shaft length does look pretty short. still, i was wondering if anyone has tried this.
my control panel uses 1/2 inch plywood, was hoping there was some way i could use this stick with it.

I have that joystick and i had a friend make a metal panel for me. You can see it on my site. The joystick does rock though. I love it for all 4 way games. It has a great feel and good spring. If you can get a metal panel made, I highly recommend it.

are people's impressions that it won't work on wood. even just 1/2 inch plywood?

I used 5/8" MDF for my cabinet & CP and then routed out an area large enough for the Ms. Pacman joystick from Happ Controls. I probably routed it down to 1/4" and it worked fine. I just routed from the bottom.

I am using a 3/4 mdf C-panel.
I routed out the area of the joystick to about 3/16 or 1/4
inch, I made 2 wooden spacers with drilled holes for
each side of J-stick. the spacers fit betwwen the joystick
and a small piece of plywood which extends past the routed area and allows me to use long screws into the 3/4" part of the C-panel . I put bolts thru J-stick spacer and plywood and I use 3 scews on each plywood "wing" into the control panel.
This worked out so well for me I mounted all my Joysticks this way because it gives you a lot of height
on your sticks and they are extremely solid.
good luck
