Title: Mag-Stik Plus Installation Issues
Post by: Vicious Burger on June 12, 2009, 03:25:29 am
When installing the MagStick Plus, how big should the hole be in the CP for the shaft of the stick? I made it just a bit bigger because i didnt think they had to have much travel each way to activate the switched, but I'm not getting good contact, should I make the hole bigger? They are mounted with non-visible hardware under the CP which is 3/4" thick, and has the dust washer on top

I'd like to keep them this way if i can, otherwise i might get a better result if i mount them on top,and get some decent length on the stick that way too.

What size hole did you put in your CP for your magstick?

The magsticks shaft size is 15mm and as you said they have a fairly short throw so I imagine a hole of 20m (13/16") should be plenty.

If people are using dust washers they tend to drill the hole the same size as the button holes which is generally 28mm (1 1/4").

Also check that you have mounted your joysticks so that the shaft is in the center of the hole you drilled. If you don't have much clearance and the shaft and hole are not concentric you may end up hitting one or two sides of the hole.

I've got one of these. I replaced the thumping great monster of a joystick with the optional extended ball-top stick with a 5/16" shaft. Not a big fan of the monster size stick that comes as standard. :(

As an aside, I hated my mag stick plus when I first installed it because of it miniscule travel, but now that I've had it for a while I love it!  :woot

I used a standard buttonhole and used the dust washer.  works great.
