Title: ls-30 wiring harness
Post by: arthur071169 on June 06, 2009, 03:15:41 pm
Hi all.
I am expeciting in the next week or so an imported LS-30 I have bought from quarterarcade.com
I am now wondering if/where can I obtain the wiring harness?  I will be buying the USB interface from ultimarc, but now realise I need to connect the two together !
I was just so pleased to find the stick, I would worry about the wiring later..
Is it a straight 1-1 pin config?  I live in the uk, so any links to a supplier here firstly would be great, but can happily buy from anywhere global.
:)

No, of course not  :dizzy:

The wiring schematic for the LS-30 is available from a few places (even Ultimarc as I recall).  I am pretty sure RandyT posted a schematic on GGG now too (since he's selling the GP-WizRX units now.  You basically just need to get ground (pin 7 if I remember correctly) and then connect the other pins into 3 groups.  Then, connect those 3 groups to the 3 pins on the board you are using.  You can use header pins to make the female LS-30 wiring harness into a male connector if you don't want to clip the connector off the end (I didn't on mine).

heck..
ok well.   I guess I need to (in order to keep my wiring tidy) locate ls-30 harnesses (1 anyway).
why is nothing ever consistent with different manufacturers...
Thank heck for USB.

Oh, I just reread and realized I missed something.  I thought you were buying the harness for your LS-30's.  Since that's not the case and you are actually looking for harnesses, I can tell you....you are screwed!

I have 2 LS-30's and really like them (I use them for my primary controllers, so I guess I don't have anything else to compare them to).  Anyway, they didn't come with any wiring harnesses.  There were some wires soldered onto the joystick switches, but nothing connected to the rotary switch.  I found that there is NOWHERE to buy the stupid harness.  I eventually found a guy that posted a guide for how to make a Happs 49 way into a rotary stick and was selling kits.  He sold me a few connectors for a good price, so I built my own.

I don't have the info at the moment, but the connectors are basically just standard 13-pin PC female header blocks.  I can't remember if they are 0.1" spacing or not, but you can always just measure to be sure.  These things are available at Mouser or DigiKey once you figure out what the specs are.

positive mental attitude!
I never thought I would find an LS-30...
Now I have one (on it's way at least).
I also never thought I would have a 'real' S.wars flight yoke..  got one of those...
Patience... (and luck).
If the wiring info is available, I can mock up the necessary...
It will be connecting to the rotary interface/usb anyway and not going into an Ikari cabinet  so looks/authenticity are not essential.

@arthur071169

If you need a LS-30 harness, I can sell you one that I assembled myself even uses the original 13pin connectors. I made it 5 feet long using 22ga stranded wire. Send me a PM if you're interested. :)

If you think that is bad, I bought mine 2 years ago from Westcontrols.com
have a look, and then prepare to swear.
:(
To be fair, it is in 'immaculate' condition, and came with a dual input analog gpac interface.

I bet I could contract a machine shop to build me a new yoke out of titanium for less than that?!  WTF!!!

So I guess I'm definitely not buying a WestControls yoke.   :dunno
