Title: Another PC speaker hack tutorial...
Post by: OSCAR on July 06, 2003, 02:15:27 am
No, this isn't anything new or original...  But I did find a couple of inexpensive speakers and nice grilles that complement each other very nicely.  It was cheap, extremely simple, looks good, and sounds very authentic, so I figured it was worth putting together a small page detailing it in case anyone else was interested.  This new rash of mini-cabs and bartops (like my Happy Hour (http://www.skum.org/bartop)) comes to mind for good candidates for this type of setup.

BTW Oscar, thanks for the advice awhile back on fixing the bass on my speakers by building some cardboard enclosures.  I had lost the bass due to removing the original PC speaker enclosures and mounting the speakers above the monitor.  Inside it looks like a duct-tape nightmare, but since I redirected the bass reflex with the cardboard, I can hear sounds I've never heard on my cab before (that's a good thing, really!)

Hey OSCAR, do you have some type of ID # for those Labtech speakers?

IG-88:  The Labtec model # is LCS1050.

These 4" speakers have a pretty full sound in my cocktail.  I thought I might need to add some enclosures to increase the back-pressure on the cones like you did, 1UP, but they sound pretty good as they are.  The explosions in Galaga are nice & bassy, so they pass my test!  ;)
