Title: Donations Needed: Ultra-RARE 80s game
Post by: Xiaou2 on June 02, 2009, 10:18:01 pm

Mameworld / Devs  needs your help.   They have announced that they have a line on
an Ultra Rare 80s game in their sites.   However, it will be VERY expensive.

Personally, Im not big on much of the new 3d stuff,  not all that Mahjong crud.
But this game looks very cool, and a very worthwhile addition to Mame.

"Now for the next bit I'm a little hesitant to mention it because it requires more donations after we just got a healthy shot of them but here is the deal. I don't want to jinx myself by mentioning the game name but potential donatators can send me a PM and I'll tell you. Don't send me a PM if you aren't seriously thinking about donating. I just don't want to post the game name publically yet (actually not until after we've bought, dumped, and sold it).

Anyway, the game is frighteningly rare now and is priced accordingly (waaaay over a grand). But if we get a few more hundred in donations by Friday morning, we can get it. I'll say this, it will be historic if we get it. It shows off the genius of the programmers at the company at the time (very early 80's, from clearly one of the best ever arcade game makers) and you can notice games it influenced many years after it came out just by looking at screen shots. It will kick monumental ass if we get it. I estimate it's around the amount below still needed. I'll lower it if/when/as donations come in. If it gets to 0 we get the game. Even if we don't hit it, we're still getting kickass games, but for this one board, this is possibly the only chance we'll ever get is to buy this one from this pcb shop."

For all the Dev's hard work.. its the least we can do.  (Even if it is a bit self motivated ;)  )
Ive dropped 25.  All I can do for now.   Hope we can get it.   Who else is in?

Anyone have any guesses as to what it might be?  I can't think of any really good games from the very early eighties that aren't already dumped/emulated.  I got excited when I started reading this because I thought it might be Marble Madness 2 but that's more like late 80s.

Oh....Bouncer is real?!? I remember seeing it in the movie "Ninja III: The Domination" and I always thought it wasn't real, but I looked it up and it sure is. I've checked MAME updates for years looking for it.

here's the official announcement, with a link to the donate button to paypal:

looks like they're (now) less than $100 to go.  I think it'll happen, whatever it is.

Hope it's Bouncer! Been itching to play that game since seeing some screenshots back in the 80's.

The counter is down to zero, so we should find out before too long. I usually try to donate when these come up, but couldn't do it this time. I just sold two of my games to make a car payment - being poor sucks.

I wonder what game it is.  Someone who got the PM spill the beans for crying out loud.

People can not and should not tell what the game is in Public.

There are certain collectors which will not sell these boards to non-collectors..
and if they find out its for Mame... the sale will be canceled.   Its happened
before.

The PM isnt the best option either... but its much better than blurting
it outright.

Those who do not want to PM... will have to wait until the board is
secured, dumped, added to mame, and re-sold off.   As that helps
keep the identities of the buyer/seller much better.
