I have seperated my tube from it's motherboard and am now wondering if anyone can identify two cables on it:
There is a fat gray cable, and a thin grey cable, both wrapping themselves around the tube.
The fat cable has a header plug that connects to the motherboard. It is two reasonably fat wires (green and white) wrapped in what appears to be insulation tape. I coulds see no marking on the motherboard to suggest what it is.
The thin grey cable appears to be exposed. It starts from a thin (black) insulated cable that connects to the neck of the tube. I almost think this is a ground connection for the metal frame? Again, no marking on the PCB.
Any ideas?

The thicker gray/black cable is the degauss coil. The small metal braid is the dag ground and usually connects to the neckboard.

That went smoother than I thought, thanks!
(was wondering if I could remove either, I think I will leave them both)

The degauss coil could be removed if you want to, but I don't know why you would.
The dag ground absolutely must be there during operation. You might get an impressive light show if it's not :)

Thanks for the advice! I will be sure to leave the ground there.
I may remove the degauss coil in order to put the tube in place. But from reading up on them I might as well leave it there unless I absolutely have to remove it.

I can't see it being in the way, seriously.

To put your mind at ease; it would only be in the way temporarily. Imagine cutting out a frame the exact size of the tube, and trying to slip it on from the neck. The cable and the plastic things holding it in place would obstruct the frame.
Why slip it on from the neck? So that is is above the tube mounts.
But anyway, I won't be removing it permanently.

Hm. I assumed it would be much like my arcade multisync.
