Well, I got this idea from another thread and thought it would be cool to share some screenshots of our MAMEWAH layouts. I can't get one off my cab right now; so I have nothing to show. My layout is 800x600 classic, but with the game names aligned to the left and the colors are changed to match my cab better. Maybe I can have a pic later

Im attempting to resize those snaps to 640x480 and 640 x288 and then resize move about a bit for my cab.

Yeah, I may do an atari logo and snap for these if people want them. I don't run atari emulation myself, but am happy to do the artwork. If someone can point me in the direction of some websites containing pictures and logos of atari consoles (or any other consoles you need pics for) that'd be a great help :)
I use RealDraw Pro for the artwork, because it is soooo easy to use and makes bevels, shadows etc.. a breeze for dummies like me!

Okay, I've created top logos and no snaps for ATARI 2600, 5200 and Lynx. I've also combined all the logos and no snap images into a single zip file and removed them from the other skins, so therefore you only have to download them once and they will work fine with all my skins ;D

Just wondering--can you add the Intellivision and Neo Geo to the list of console title and nosnap images? They are the only ones missing that I would like to have. That would be great.

Odonadon: Feel Free to use any of my graphics in your own skins. You can cut them up, edit them, host them at your own site, or whatever you want. Be sure to post pics of your own skins when they're done!
arcadecab: Intellivision and Neogeo Titles and Nosnaps have now been added to the logos zip file. You'll have to download it again to get all the graphics.
I've also now added CAVE's R-type and 720 Skins to my website. - Thanks for these CAVE ;)

You guys may be interested to know this:
MAMEWAH can automatically find your separate emulator 'logo' and 'no snap' images if you do the following:
1) Place these images in your emulator(s) root folder,
2) Name the files 'EMU-LOGO.PNG' and 'EMU-NO SNAP.PNG' (where 'EMU' is the exe filename of the emulator, eg 'mame' for mame.exe). (BMP, JPG, GIF, PCX also work).
These files must exist correctly when you enter the 'Emulator Executable' for the first time, otherwise they will not be found/used...
I think I mentioned this in a previous post, but the above technique applies similarly to:
'DAT Filename': [emupath]\EMU.DAT,
'NMS Filename': [emupath]\EMU.NMS,
'CatVer Filename': [emupath]\CATVER.INI,
'ROM Path': [emupath]\ROMS,
'Artwork #1 Path': [emupath]\SNAP.
Hopefully that'll save a minute or two in future...(*hint* the cfg files will change next version)

I forgot and should have mentioned before--is it possible to add the Neo Geo Pocket and Sega 32X to the list of console titles and nosnaps?? I just noticed I also have some roms of those systems and these should make the console list pretty much complete. I would greatly appreciated it!!
Now, wouldn't it be great to have zips of all the titles, snapshots, and box art for all games on these systems. Hopefully someday as they would be great additions to MAMEwah for console emulation.

As for snapshots for games, I've got all the NES snaps (ingame and titles) at my site - click the NES link at the bottom of the page! Hopefully one day, someone will provide snaps for all the other consoles (named using goodtools names ofcourse ;) ).

I've been an Emuloader user for a couple of years now, but the possibilities of the other FEs are too interesting to ignore.
Seeing fantastic Skins like posted here are motivation enough to give Minwah a try. Curious to know if there are any special tools or skills required to create these skins (other than getting/creating the artwork).

Actually, you can have like 5 screenshots per game (marquee title screenshot, ect.)
And MAMEwah uses it's own layout designer witch is windows based and EASY TO USE!

Where can I read or find out more about the layout designer....is that only part of the latest beta builds?

You should just play with it. MinWah is in the middle of these 95b, 951b, 952b releases. They are all Beta and the documentation is limited. MinWah has a FAQ at his site as well as it was posted as a thread on the forum. I don't believe their is anything regarding the LD though... Here is a TXT file for LD. How much it will help i don't know.

Actually, it helps....now I know I need the latest beta to see the skinner app. Minwahs site suggests newbies get ver.090, but there is no skinner app in that version.....

Update: Installed latest version and found the skinner (duh). This looks great, just what I've been hoping for. Great examples guys, Stuzza I can't seem to get to your site....might be my work/proxy I'll try from home later.

man i wish i could use some of these but im stuck on 640x480 res. since i use a 27inch television instead and cant use others resolutions correctly.
i'll post a pic of mine shortly i just gotta figure out a screen capture program and take one.

Alt-prntscrn gives you a screen cap of the currently selected window. In this case, the FE. Prntscrn by istelf will give you a screen cap of everything you see on your monitor. In this case, the FE. Either will yield the exact same result :)

With regards to the NES snaps and titles (USA) listed on your website. I know you said goodtools names before and that you provided a link for a artwork renamer (I believe made by Howard Casto), that I downloaded. The problem with using the snaps and titles is that they dont match the actual rom names and thus are not recognized. Before, I had to physically change each name, but apparently with the artwork renamer--I wouldnt have to do that anymore. I tried the renamer, but couldn't quite see what to do. The program comes up and asks for source dir., destination directory, rom directory--then artwork and rom extensions, and then some boxes to check as to the renaming features. Basically, what I want to do is take the screens and titles folders that I downloaded from your website with names that do not have "_" between words and have them match the .NES roms that DO have the "_" between words and place them in a folder within my Nintendo emulator folder labeled NES screens and NES titles. Can you help further explain how to use this artwork renamer to fully use the NES screens and titles on your site.

My cab runs a 27 inch TV set and with video card I run MAMEWah at 800X600 (I think), I do know it won't do 1024X768. What would happen if I tried to use your skin on my cab?
My guess is it would get cropped to hell. And the reason why I haven't just tried it out is because I am currently using an old version of MAMEWAh, and I would need to upgrade first, and I have been resisting doing that until a non-beta comes out, mostly because it's a huge pain to run a network cable to my cabinet due to house constraints (plus the thing is heavy!)

The easiest way to make use of my NES snaps is simply rename your roms to match the snaps. Go and download GoodNES (a dos based NES rom renamer) and use it to rename all your nes roms. With one simple line, you can rename all your roms to the goodtools name standard and then they will match my NES snap set perfectly. Trying to rename the snapshots instead is a pain in the ass, which is why I decided to release the NES snaps with goodtools names.

800x600 resolution skins are now available. if you use these, you'll need to download the update pack for the Top Logo images so they fit properly on the page. - Minwah will hopefully be adding the ability to "auto stretch" Main Logos in the next release!

Looks good, except you can't read the game list over the graphic that is behind it.
I would drop the opacity down and change the color of the font to make it stand out from the graphics.
Just my $.02, but the rest looks good :) I like the gng knight :D

Ya I was trying different colors to see what looked better and haven't really decided
yet for sure.... Actually, the screen shot looks darker there for some reason. In reality
it doesnt look as dark. I will try some different colors and see if I like any better ones.

Okie dokie.... I dropped the opacity on the centipede and changed the colors
some and I do think it looks better. It actually looks more distinct in the front
end, the screenshot always looks darker. Anyways..... here it is.

Well, since my cab has a rotating monitor, I needed a vertical version of my layout.
I created a copy of the mamewah directory and changed the file pointers etc, and
created a new vertical layout. The arcadeVga card I have lets windoz run rotated, so
I just rotate it and have a seperate shortcut on the desktop to run each version.
I should be able to send a rotate command to mame but I haven't tried it yet.

The cab has XP in it. For a long time it was DOS, but I changed to
XP when I got the ArcadeVga card. It uses some sorta modified
ATI drivers but it has a utility to rotate the desktop.

Has anyone tried the SteveH layout? I am having a problem with it using my no-snap images for some reason where it is suppossed to be using artwork (the marquee in his layout.) I have checked and re-chaecked my pats, but that is not the problem.

I sent the layout file to Stuzza. We are currently waiting on permission from the original creator to post the modified version. It's just a matter of curtosy to the original author.
Aside from that, I can possibly post it Monday with the psd file (original copies are on my work computer) for others to download and play around with. The original is 640x480, my version is 800x600. If you want it at 1024x768, just resize the background and move the boxes around a little in the layout designer...or if you don't have the tools to do it yourself, I can work on the larger version again on Monday and forward it off to Stuzza to post.

PS: Would there be a cool way as part of the skin, to display the control panel artwork where the mame logo currently is to make it look more like an original cab? Also, a way through the skin to display the remain two artworks that I have for some games: flyer and title screen. I have played with the layout designer to get something like this, but it probably always looks nicer when borders, etc. are added as part of the skin itself. I dont have the tools to make skins, but just a suggestion. Perhaps not even that good of one. Your current version in 1024x768 would be appreciated in itself.

Here is my setup, which I am still working on.
I used a picture of a dig dug cabinet that I grabbed off ebay. Then I reworked the monitor glass to be wider (for a horizontal monitor), and then I put the plastic bezel behind it.
I am also showing off one of the new marquees that no one besides me has yet (hee hee).

Some may be interested to know that next release you will also be able to use artwork-specific 'no snap' images. Also, it will be possible to use emulator specific, layout specific and global logo / no snap images. Seems to work pretty well if I do say so myself :)

I was busy re-organising the layout / image stuff but hadn't actually though of this idea...then yesterday I got a mail suggesting it and I realised this would be good (especially with the 'cab' picture layouts), so it was a great time to add it in. :)

Sorry for any delay, but I upgraded my pc the other day and had to reformat. However, I'm now happy to say I'm the proud owner of a P4 2.4 GHz hyper thread CPU and an 80gig Serial ATA Hard Drive... woohoo! ;D

well, I personally don't care for it, but I just sent my skin in 640x480 to Stuzza to post.
I had to change the fonts on the control instructions to a more readable font at smaller size (Arial Black)...but such is the compromise.

It would be nice to have the choice between all three resolutions--not knowing which I will use/need in the future if/when I get an actual cab to put MAME into. It is a great skin, btw. my favorite so far--thus nice to have all three available.

i also done a quick conversion of stevegs skin for myself, nothing special tho. it just bothered me
that the screen didnt have a joystick, so i decided to change it around abit for myself so heres what
i customized it to so far...its about 5minutes work so nothing huge but i wanna work around this look
and get it setup nicely since the layout works and looks very great, thanks for the originals steve and
gndprx.
and i know the control panels kind of ugly but its the best quality one i could find so far =(

Other resolutions (particularly 800x600...max TV resolution) would be greatly appreciated, if you have the time to do them.

Any of you MAMEWAH skinners mind if I transmute your skins into DragonKing skins? Or, I suppose it would make more sense to reverse the proposition. Will any of you CONSENT to me converting them? Currently, MAMEWAH offers more functionality than DK, but it would be nice to be able to make choices based on FE features, rather than the skin you like most.

Well yeah, I wouldn't have bothered asking if I was just going to use them myself. But my plan is to give them to Casto or someone to post... didn't want to step on any toes :)

I do have skins and a new skin page in the works, but I'm trying to get the new site and the documentation up first. There will be skins up shortly, including a few I've made. Just hold on to anything you make and when the new skin page pops up contact me. :)
