Title: Help with Spintrac Minor Connection Problem
Post by: Section_25 on May 27, 2009, 11:49:25 am
Was trying to connect my spinner to my mini-pac yesterday, but I couldn't see how to connect it. The spintrac has the slinder black 4-pin connector and if I'm correct I need to plug it into the bigger white 4-pin connector. I looked on ultimarcs website and it says "The Mini-PAC wiring harness is supplied with an adaptor header". Is this a seperate connector to link these two connectors? I looked carefully through my stuff, but I didn't find any small male pin connector to link these. Should I have gotten this part with the mini-pac? Is there another way to connect these? Was considering cutting the connectors and splicing the wires together directly. Would this be something that can be done? Someone advise please  :-\

Thanks Andy!  ;D

I was just looking for a workaround instead of all the hassle of you having to ship it to me. I called around to a few computer shops, but they had a hard time understanding what I was looking for. The ones that did understand what I was telling them I needed were like, " yeah, we don't have anything like that" haha. I gave up after the third shop I called. Wouldn't it work ok to splice the wires together with a wire nut as long as I connected the wires correctly? I really don't mind doing it that way if it won't cause a problem.

I had the same issue.
Had to cut the ends of both wires and replace them with a male & female 4 pin connectors that I got from radio shack.

Also had some issues matching up the colors. Web site pics didn't match the text which didn't match what was shipped. Here's the link to my post

Thank You!

Actually, I found your thread last night, and copied and pasted the wiring info to a textpad. Yesterday I connected my mini-pac wiring as it was shown on ultimarc's website, but I couldn't get the mini-pac to be recognized in windows at all. I'm going to try again today, I remain optomistic and confident that I will get this cabinet working!  :hissy:

I recently had a similar problem with the SpinTrak - Andy helpfully sent me the connector with another order, but even so, the wiring didn't match the MiniPac inputs.

Much like mlalena, I had to rewire the SpinTrak, but the power wires were the opposite way around to his diagram, so the wiring seems to be a bit inconsistent on these!

For what it's worth, on my MiniPac at least, the wiring diagram shown on the Ultimarc site is wrong - the power connections for the spinner are the same as for the trackball (pins 2 and 3, not 1 and 4 as shown in the diagram)

It took a bit of fiddling, but I've now got a SpinTrak and a U-Trak trackball hooked up to the MiniPac and working fine.  This was after several frustrating issues of the Trackball Y-axis being the wrong way round, the Spinner not working at all, or only moving slowly left ... but with the right wiring, all was well.

Good luck with yours!

Well, after a snag with a " cable problem" I think I am back in business. Everything seems to be working now except the spintrak. I'm pretty sure that it is a wiring issue, so I am waiting for a reply from Andy about it. Anyone know for sure which colored wire connects to which with the newest mini-pacs? This is the last problem to overcome, so I'm getting there slowly but surely.
