Title: kortek 2914 vga adapter
Post by: tcleary on May 23, 2009, 06:31:26 pm
I got one of these but it didn't have the vga adapter.  anyone know where I could obtain one or a work around for getting from the board to vga?
here is the service manual:
http://www.retroblast.com/files/KT-XX14X-SM.pdf

it looks like I can wire something myself, ultimarc has a vga breakout cable, I ordered one, and I'm guessing I can line up the 6 pins with the associated wire from the vga breakout cable according to page 7 of the manual above. that only leaves me with the question what does "ring wire" mean on the chart. it lines up with rgb grounds and another ground on the d sub 15 pin side. do I need to do anything for those?

thanks for any help.

You don't need to worry about that "ring" if you don't have a shielded cable.  I seem to recall that it didn't even attach to anything metal on the monitor anyway (weird).

If you wish to make a harness yourself, the cable side connector for PC level signals (0.7Vpp into 75 ohms) is a 6 position Molex SPOX 2.5mm connector p/n 50-37-5063 (housing) 08-70-1040 (crimp terminal).  You can buy these parts at Digi-Key or Mouser easily.

you guys are awesome, I'm sure I'll be able to get it working now.  I ordered a vga breakout cable, so that should do it if I line up the pins.  thanks.
