Post by: iscariot on May 20, 2009, 06:56:56 pm
What are those little "feet" called that mount a board inside a cabinet and where can I get some?

Honestly, you can cut up a plastic pen and use it instead of buying these.  It's just as functional, saves time and money, and is simple to do.

Good idea, never thought of that, will use it the next time i am in a jam. As an alternative, i always go to a nearby computer repair shop "A:/prompt" And they have given me a handfull twice.

If anyone wants a premade solution that works just like "cutting up a pen", any home center or hardware store should carry nylon spacers.  These are functionally the same thing, but will be exactly the same length for each one and will have a nice flat end to support your boards.  Also, you don't lose that $0.05 pen either  ;)

Here's an example of what I mean.  Most stores will have a huge assortment of sizes to pick from...

How do you mount a board to something with those spacers?

Use a screw thru the board with the spacer or pen piece under the hole and the screw going thru the spacer into the wood of the cabinet.

I have also used small zipties.  Just zip them until there is only a tiny hole left then snip the excess off.  Not the best way to do it, but works in a pinch when you have get all McGuyver with it.

Kind of Off Subject

Did you know that McGuyver's first name was Angus?

No. But good to know!

If you want PCB feet in the U.K. go to Swallow Amusements. Just bought a few - great service.

Dang, prices in Britain are insane.  No wonder why all my relatives in Kent do all their parts shopping on this side of the pond.
