Title: Need some Resistor information
Post by: supadave on May 20, 2009, 09:46:31 am
Curious question.. where is a good place to buy replacement resistors for a WG K7000 board.. like the R103, R301, R104 etc.. I have a dead board and I may need to possibly replace some of these. I haven't really tested yet but I'm wondering if there is a good place to get replacement. Or even supliments.

Can one of the monitor wiz techs help me out and give me some information on these resistors?  Some technical info and such. I would greatly appreciate it.. Thanks.

This site seems to have a nice selection.. What do you guys think

Everything you need sir - http://www.wgec.com/pdf/Service/K7000.pdf

see page 16 for part listing and values.

yeah, I have that and I've looked up the parts and sorta found them spread out. I'm just trying to get some information about resistors in general.. like if one (on the part list of course) says it's a 220 ohm 15 wat. Does is matter what brand of resister or type as long as it matches the values.. I'm just not even sure what the exactness is on that part list. I see some that are listed wire wound and some that say something else but have same values. How do I know what type is on my chassis.

for instance.. k7000 R103 2.7 ohm 5% 7w..  do I just need any resistor that meets that value or do I need a wire wound or whatever.. i'm just trying to understand resistors a bit better. I know I can look up part numbers, but some of the part numbers are not always found.. like R104 is difficult to find by p#. I just would like to understand how to find compatible resistors.

for best results , the replacement should be same type/value as the original.

for example : in an RF circuit, using a wirewound in place of a carbon resistor is just asking for problems .  ;D

Thanks Qrz.. that helps. I appreciate the info. So how can I tell if I have a wirewound or a carbon?  for example.. in the k7000 manual this is the part: P#043x0484-001  (15ohm 5% 5W)
That is all it says.. how do I know if it's wirewound or carbon.. It is one of the white ceramic square looking resistors if that helps. What type are those generaly?  I'm thinking those are wirewound?

low resistance/high wattage ceramic resistors are usually wirewound.... ;)
