well, for a while i had absolutely no ideas.
but after the internet gave me some, i came up with this.
what do you think?

I wonder what it would look like if the background "flat" parts of the MAME logo were 30% transparent or so? Also, I'd go with a red logo or orange... the blue doesn't contrast well with the red IMHO. Looks tacked on.

you mean the parts in between the borders of the logo?
but yeah, the recoloring of the logo does sound like a good idea, just been having a hard time finding the right color.

I could be wrong, but I think he ment to have the MAME logo a little transparent so the background can come through the MAME logo a little. But, I could be wrong. It looks good.

Are you aiming for a somewhat 60/70's look there?
It might look different full sized, but I think you should change the lower right corner graphic. You have this nice graphic in the upper left, then some nice left/center art then black black and.... plunk, this tiny little graphic in the lower right. Almost like it was put there as an after thought.
If you really are aiming for that 70's look, why not go all the way? Find a nice 70's font to spell out MAME. Help the cab stand out a bit.

well, i do agree with you on the bottom right thing, but i actually built the design around the top right and bottom left.
but yeah, I'm gonna see if i can do something new for that.

Your black areas are very empty. Try this, take those circles and curves, duplicate the hell out of them, mix them around a bit and place them in the background at a low opacity. This will keep it dark but it may be more interesting.

I like it, but I'm with Trebeck, Take the patterns you've already got, alter the colors slightly, you might fade them50% or so as well, so they're there, but they don't necessarily stand out.
I'd also go with a more sixties/hippy/groovy font for mame, then reduce it to vectors and blend the letters, somewhat like the MAME logo itself.

well, after taking some of the advice I've been given, this is what i came up with.
unfortunately, i can't seem to find a font that I like, does anyone have a suggestion?

You got the right idea with the background patterns, but I think there might need to be more, and they need to hang off the edge more. Things seem "boxed in".
But it's definitely got legs!

some more work, still can't find a font that's working for me, I may just give up on that, i like the normal mame letters.
also, last time i uploaded my work, i accidentally overwrote my work with it about 1/3 of the size it should be, so i had to start over.

Cool. I think maybe some of the red might be a little too bright. It seems to wash out the Mame logo, but you're headed in the right direction.
I think the backgrounds still too black, but I don't necessarily think you need more bubbles and such. Just not sure what.
