The title almost says it all. Up till version X, MAME had a built in hack to save highscores for the classics from the 70-ies and 80-ies, which lost their high-scores after turning the machine off and on. Today with the more accurate emulation of MAME, the highscores are wiped, as running a MAME emulation is similar to booting a machine. So which version still had the hack for high-score saving?

Rather than go back to an older version of mame that supports less games..follow the directions here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=64298.0
its real easy to do,i've done it twice now with no issues.
*edit* and if it was a question just out of curiosity and not that you needed high score support it was version 107 that was the last one that supported it

That trick probably does not work for MameOSX :D
What version does it work on? And aren't there any pre-compiled ones?
-
.106 was the last version with the hack enabled. One of the "u" releases after .106, but before .107, implemented the new system.

Ask around the mac forums.

No. Or at least not obviously known, though I guess you could compile your own, it really ain't hard given the work of headkaze, and then, hey, you could host and promote a compiled version. Or, hey, even more so, you could support a 'currently-compiled' version. A small cause, but perhaps worthy.
