He may not have been the most popular guy around, but he is definitely a talented developer.  Anyone who enjoys CPS3 emulation can thank him for example.  :-\  It's funny that there are politics even in the development of free software.

Agreed.  Unfortunately people can't just "code"... personalities clash... words are exchanged... etc. etc. etc.

Massive loss to the project, in the end it will only serve to hold back everything. He should start a new team and even continue his work in private, and if the day comes when they all bury the hatchet, he would have a wealth of info accumulated

I actually think there is something to be said about starting another public opensource emulator.  Sure it would be years before it would be up to mame years ago, but if you notice most of the changes in the last few years was to bring an old codebase up to date...  I'm curious if someone started something with that in mind to start off with, how well they could do.  Especially if they thought about todays computers to start off with...

But yes, this sucks.  Sucks because most of his complaints, people have talked about in the past (ie, we will probably see more leave in the future for the same reason, since its happened in the past... and attitudes haven't changed).

btw, one of the reasons I always like byoac...  Amazing Emulation boards without the crap from the official mame boards (when they where around) and most other places... Very little drama compared...

I think Haze will be back.  Why?  Because someone truly interested in leaving a project like MAME just leaves...

... but Haze is,  unfortunately,  "about" the drama... Emu-drama is what I've heard it called.  Just code or don't code.  Certainly Haze's contributions to the project are appreciated,  but seriously,  why all the drama all the time?   Personally... i hope the guy reconsiders and continues to contribute.  If he doesn't it will be a loss to the project,  but it certainly won't stop the project in it's tracks...
