Title: New Jukebox build (Final Pics)
Post by: joey1207 on May 18, 2009, 01:06:41 pm
Hey all,

Havent put anything on here in quite a while, so thought I would post my latest jukebox. It is pretty basic, I am posting this pretty late in the build, so I will post pics from the beginning to date.

Wow, that looks great! I love the design and the way the speakers fit right in. How loud is it?

May I ask where you got that little volume control panel on the front from? What else does it do?

Well, to be honest, I havent played the speakers yet! They are 5.25 car audio speakers, and I just painted the grills to match. I stole the little control panel/amp out of some logitech X-140 speakers. According to the specs, it should push 11 watts (5.5 to each speaker), so it should sound pretty good. It is only a jukebox, it will be running SKJukebox. It is a gift for my nephew.

Looks good ... although I do hope that chair you were using to paint on doesn't turn out to be some valuable antique!

Keep up the good work, I'd like to build one of these myself one day ...

Wow, Looks good to me!  :applaud:

I'm a little worried the 11watts wont sound good on the car speakers.

I think you need a t-amp or something like that.

I hope that is not the case. I tested the speakers on a cheap after market car radio that only put out 14 watts (7 per channel) and they sounded pretty good, and they werent in an enclosure. They are only 20 watt rms speakers, so I hope it will be okay.

I like the paint job as well, what kind of paint did you use to get that multi colored textured look? Looks good!

Thanks Barry and Orion.

Tha base is Duplicolor Metallic Black, 4 coats with wetsanding between each. The flames are Duplicolor Red, 4 coats, then I wetsanded the whole thing, sprayed a coat of Duplicolor Clear Effex, wetsanded and then another coat of the Clear Effex.

k, got the monitor in, and all the components. Plugged it all in for a quick test, this is just playing on media player for the test, but it was amazingly loud and clear with the car speakers and logitech amp, I was very pleased with the sound! Here are a few pics, sorry, not the best, but will post better pics after I clean up the wiring and have it closer to finished.

Thanks for the info on the paint. I was thinking about trying some automotive paint for a jukebox I am currently working on to see if I like it, but I am unsure as to how well it will work on MDF, however after seeing the results you had with it, I think I'll give it a go. How durable of a finish is it on MDF? Did you have to prime or seal the wood or do anything special to get the paint to adhere correctly?

How did you manage to wire up the car amp to make the car speakers work is there an easy way to do this via a pc sorry if this is a stupid question

The finish seems to be very durable, I did prime and wetsand and prime again before painting, then just used the Duplicolor clear effex with a 2000 grit wetsand between the 4 coats.

I took the amp and transformer out of a set of Logitech X-140 pc speakers, then wired the speakers directly to the two sets of leads coming off the amp board, and wired the power directly to the transformer. It is not a stupid question, I was very concerned that it either would not work, or would not be enough to push the speakers, but by going with the 20 watt rms speakers, the X-140 amp seems to push them nicely, and the auxillary input and the headphone jack between the volume and tone knobs on the little black panel was a great bonus! The amp and transformer are on the left side of the pic, the amp / volume controls are one piece. (had to use a dremel to remove them from the molded plastic speaker case they were in).
