Title: Name this cabinet art challenge.. (updated pics) Mystery Solved!!!!
Post by: supadave on May 17, 2009, 09:03:24 pm: Ok, recently started tinkering with paint removal on an old converted SLY SPY cab I have. I want to know what this old cab used to be so here is a little art to challenge the experts.

What is this artwork of ??

UPDATE2: MYSTERY SOLVED!!!!!
A big thank you to Bluedeath for solving this mystery.. The cabinet used to be a "MAGIC WORM (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=13560)" cabinet

I was just hoping someone might know it. I'll just have to remove some more paint. I can sorta see the raised markings under the paint and I can tell there is no text. Just design work. I'll snap another pic once I get more uncovered.

Nah you're not missing much. it was a really stupid internet joke for a while. whenever anyone asked what a game this was or what was this screenshot from....the reply was always Battletoads.

I remember being amazed at how similar the shape was to the one I designed from scratch.

ID plate? hm.. Call it an oversight but I didn't think to look at any inside marking.. Doh!!!

Looks kinda like it may be Bally - Bally/Midway construction, can't really tell.

At first glance I was thinking Asteroids. Now this bothers me. I must know what it is.

The back door has been painted on both sides as well. I didn't have time to remove any more paint but I will try to tonight. I got twin 1 year olds and I rarely have time to even fart when trying to watch them when I get home at night.

I was right, your cabinet is "Magic worm" fron SIDAM, it was made in my city (Turin italy) look here.

My only question is how an Italian made cabinet reached US?

I have no idea how it got in the US but none the less.. I have the cab and the artwork is in pretty good shape under all that icky paint. I got the cabinet about 10 years ago for 50 bucks.. Sly Spy works great all except for the monitor chassis needs capped (that is on my to do list as you can see it's been pulled)

Post by: Bluedeath on May 22, 2009, 09:26:24 am: Glad to having been able to help. Actually was pretty much easy. Once i found that it was a SIDAM cab i just browsed this company games in KLOV, it's nice to know that my Bosconian is not the last surviving one.

Sidam was a small company that porduced licensed (and some bootlegs) cabs for Namco / Atari games in the eighties they had the cotract for manufacturing european dragon's lair (and space ace if i remeber correctly) machines for Italy (and europe)

I'm emotionally bound to this brand because it was from my city and i played most of the games in their cabs when i was a kid.

The other brand that i saw often when i was a Kid was CDA but it seems that no one eve heard ot this cabinet maker (AFAIK no CDA boards were ever produced) .

Post by: supadave on May 22, 2009, 09:46:09 am: Just so you know Bluedeath, The cab is in excellent shape (no physical damage or water damage etc.) It just has the conversion kit and the cp has been replaced. I have no intentions of destroying the cab. I will eventually get the art on both sides cleaned up. It will however be pretty much a sly spy with magic worm side art. If someone gets an ich and wants to restore it to a magic worm than I'd be up for selling it.

I know of at least one other that is here in Canada (is actually the cab shown on KLOV) and has made its way through a couple of local collectors.

Unfortunately mine had a lot of "battle damage" when i received it as gift, so i decioded to mame it (but in a total reversible way) . i'm changing the marquee and redoing the control panel (sadly it was already converted to a generic Jamma when i got it).
