Title: All 5 Mortal Kombats in ONE machine!
Post by: MK3FAN on May 17, 2009, 12:16:40 pm
Via the use of a 6-in-1 switcher, I was finally able to put all 5 MK's (MK1, MK2, MK3, UMK3, MK4) in one dedicated cabinet. Check it out.....

That is definitely sweet !  8)

I would love to have all the authentic versions, but for now I will have to settle for the mame emulated versions. Mame runs all versions great except for mk4 of course. What was the total cost for that project, as far as the arcade boards?

It's hard to say. I have all of the dedicated cabinets and just stole the boards out of them for this project. So, I didn't really spend anything extra for the boards, except for the MK2, I found one cheap on Ebay, so I left my original one in it's cabinet. The switcher was $90. The MK2 board was $30. I had to buy 100 Diodes for the test menu mods and the LK harness mods, and they were only about $5. So, I really only spent $125.

Top work - I saw a vid similar to this a while back and I'm glad a BYOAC member has done the same. That is the beauty of the MK/Midway setups - the controls are largely the same, as is the hardware and overall machine dimensions. If only more game series' had worthwhile cabinets with consistent specs, I'd do the same with original hardware. Much more impressive than a MAME compilation cabinet.

I got one suggestion - as MK1 uses a momentary switch for the menu (not a great design), you should consider re-wiring the end of that with an on/off toggle switch instead, so that you don't have to hold it while you are in the menu. You could probably do this for all games then and mount a switch bank more conveniently than having to go inside the coin door.

what did you use for the kick harness, did you splice into the existing cabnet and buy extra kick harnesses, and how do you install the diodes, I have KI1, KI2, mortal kombat 2, 3 , nba jam. that I want to put on the 6 in 1 switcher.  I know I need the   -5v for the midway pcb's but not quite sure on the extra buttons and how they wire up

Sorry to hear about that happening.  I watch a lot of your vids and go by TortureBot on YouTube.  Exactly what copyrighted video got you suspended?  Also, should you start going by "The Artist Formerly Known As YourMameMan"? Lol! J/K... maybe.  ;D

How did you wires the controls for MK1?  They are a different pinout than the other Mortal Kombat games...  I have MK2, UMK3, and MK4 in my Mortal Kombat 1 cab, but can't figure out a good way to get the control for 1.

Since you have a 6 in 1 switcher and 5 MK games in there, have you considered on adding the MKII Challenger hack version of the game in the last available slot?

CHALLENGER version (hack) :

* Faster Uppercuts.

* Jax has a faster Face Smash.

* Jax's Face Smash has Liu Kang's sound FX.

* Cages Shadow Kick goes twice as far.

* Cage has full time Red Shadow moves.

* Multiple Dead Pool Fatality (Normal Uppercut will knock the person in, then you can continue to hit them while they're in the acid).

* Play against Noob Saibot after 6 wins.

* Play Pong on battle 16 instead of 250.

* Fight Smoke whenever you catch the 'Toasty' guy (not just the portal stage)

* Play against Jade after 4 wins

* More difficult fight ladder that often begins with Kintaro or a hidden character.

* All of the secret characters can appear on the fight ladder.

* Super extended time to perform fatalities.

I have the Challenger hack installed in my dedicated MK2. The switcher has the 2.1 revision with the infinite babality/friendship glitches.

Well I read all this:

"Ok, so I am formerly known as "YourMameMan" or "KlassicMK", but because I apparently uploaded a copyrighted video on the KlassicMK channel, YouTube deleted BOTH my accounts because they had the same email address associated with them. It sucks, but it's not the end of the world."

But still wondering what content actually got your accounts deleted on YouTube?  ???

Ok, so I posted a 1 minute clip of a movie that Paramount Pictures claimed as copyright infringement. Because of that, without warning, YouTube deleted my account. This was the "KlassicMK" account. When they did that, as is customary I later found out, they delete every account associated with the account's e-mail address. That also happened to be my YourMameMan account. I had the same e-mail address on file for both accounts so I could receive comment e-mails from them both at one address. That is what happened.

UMK3 , best of them all, in my opinion.

Also I subscribed to your channel. I didn't even know where was a device that let you use 6 games. I've got a MAME cab and a Jamma cab. that really opens up new worlds for the Jamma cab. Yay!

Hmm, sucks about the (c)tube account (esp since they are involving more policies that make it less a place for independant artists and more a place for the corperations). BTW, nice to see at the ripe old age of 108 that you can do this sort of thing, hell you dont SEEM that old! :P
