I just figured I'd pass this application along to those here who might want to try it. It's called RocketDock and its a take on Apple's dock bar in OS X. I've been using it for about six months now (in xp and vista) and love it. Very easy to use, can customize it, from what I can tell its not heavy / does not slow down your computer. Sorry if this has been discussed before, to lazy to do a search tonight.

RocketDock is pretty cool, but I guess I grew tired of the novelty quickly.
Another app in the same vein is True Launch Bar

Not quite as pretty/polished, but packed with options, and included tons of plugins to do just about anything you'd want to do in the taskbar or a sidebar. I've found it much more useful in the long run, but hey, tastes differ
It's not free, but it's cheap enough that it's not a big concern, plus they have a long trial period.

Cool, I'll give it a try.

Or you can get the release candidate for Windows 7. Took me a few days to get used to the new taskbar, but I really like it now.

Hmmm. I may just have to pull down the RC and give it a whirl on a VM.
I've been hearing more and more good things about it. Vista has been OK, but it certainly didn't live up to my expectations anyway<sigh>. Usable, but nothing fantastic.
