Title: New Wells delivered today. Has tiny chip in glass. What would you do?
Post by: BlazzingFlippers on May 15, 2009, 03:34:37 pm
I got my new Wells Gardner D9800 delivered this morning.  The very first thing I noticed when I turned it on was what looked like a dead pixel that you would normally see on an LCD.  As I tried to rub it off, I noticed my fingernail catching and sticking on it so I realized its in the glass.  On a black background you cannot see it but on a white background its clearly visible.  My dilemma now is do I return it for a new one or suck it up and deal with it.  I have included a picture where you can see it.  I'm the kind of person that most likely will never forget about this ding and my eyes already lock in on it.

What would you do?

Have them send out a new one.  They were very good about replacing a defective monitor I bought recently.  Out of five monitors, one was bad.  20% failure rate.  Seems about right eh?  :dunno
Anyway, there's no reason you should put up with a chip in a brand new monitor.

I am in agreement.  I just emailed them to see about getting a new one.  Hopefully this goes smoothly.  Did you order yours from Xarcade?  That is where I got mine.  Please don't tell me they make me pay for the shipping on this??  :-\

No, got mine from Wells directly.  Sorry, assumed you did the same.  I stand by my statement that you shouldn't have to put up with that though.  Don't know how that will go over with xarcade since I haven't dealt with them.

You may be able to have UPS take it back, if X-arcade won't pay for the shipping.

you might have look at this thread on arcade otaku:

Seems like people are using something called "jewelers rouge" to take the scratches and pits out and it works pretty good from what they are saying.

Thanks Jack I might take a look at that.  I've decided to keep the monitor.  I put it into my cabinet and really forgot about it.  I think I can live with it.

That's a shame.  One of the mounting brackets that came w/ mine was bent a little and it took just an email with a photo and they fedex'd next day a new bracket.  nice.

I ordered a WG through X-arcade 2 weeks back. Got it and the screen had a warp in it and the tube was broken. However they were very polite and shipped me a new one, it's not often you get good service nowadays. I can forgive a bad failure rate if the manufacturers or sellers are realistic about them.
