Title: I have one star wars yoke, and two T2 guns....
Post by: Generic Eric on July 04, 2003, 12:32:29 am
I have one star wars yoke, and two T2 guns, how many Dual strike controllers do I need?

Can I have all three connected at the same time?

I would just get 2 and connect molexes to them (between the Dual Strike and the controllers) so I can use 1 for the Star Wars yoke as well.  Otherwise you'll need 3.  There shouldn't be any problem connecting all 3 AFAIK.

I would get 3, they're pretty cheap on ebay.  I have one permanently connected to each of my controls (2 guns and 1 yoke) so it's like just plugging in a joystick.  I've had all 3 connected at once with no problems.  You can have up to 16 controllers hooked up simultaneously in windows.  They are all seen as separate devices.

Also, you don't have to necessarily use Dual Strikes, other analog gamepads can work too, but then you'll have to figure out the wiring yourself...  ;)

Ok, but how do I deal with my emulator?  How does MAME distingush which is controller one?

Ya, but you make it look so easy.  When there are no more Dual Strikes to buy off ebay, maybe then I'll consider doing the pioneering. ;)  But since I have two already, chances are someone else will do it before me.

There's not really anything to deal with.  Mame will see them as joystick1 joystick2 and joystick3.  You only need to go in and configure which one is which by hitting TAB, going into Input (This Game) and going to one of the AD Stick settings (I guess it's Lightgun X and Y now).  Choose Lightgun X, and then aim your gun or yoke left.  Choose the next Lightgun X, and aim right.  Same for Lightgun Y (up and down).  Do the same for the Player 2 gun (using Lightgun2 X) and you're all set.  Some games also require you to calibrate the first time you run the game.  In T2, there is a dip-switch setting for this.

I got six Dual Strikes and hacked them via 1up's design (actually 7 of them....one for a spare).

I am connecting a Spy Hunter steering wheel, Star Wars yoke, Sega HangOn motorcycle steering assembly, 2 sets of virtua racing gas/brake assemblies, 2 Virtual-On 8-way joysticks and 4 types of shifters and some buttons to my rotating Mame driving cab.   Everything is almost done.  I have to put on another wood panel, fill/sand the screws holes, paint and wire it up.

PS: I decided to hack more buttons from the Dual Strike then what 1Up's picture shows is required for a Star Wars yoke.  I did this so I could use those as inputs for shifters, buttons, etc....
