my thoughts are starting to drift back to my 75% complete SI reproduction. I'm thinking i should get the artwork printed and applied to inspire me to finish it off. but how DO you apply vinyl artwork to MDF? Should i prime it first?

Priming it would be a good idea just to seal the MDF. Sand it smooth with at least 220 grit sandpaper. I use 3M spray adhesive. A light coat does the trick - lining everything up is the tricky part. I use masking tape to get the art placed and then roll it on a little at a time and follow with a burnishing tool of some sort to avoid air bubbles. It is nerve wracking!

spray on some 3M spray adhesive first that way it does not curl up on you

3m is a great product, just make sure you buy the heavy duty spray mount, Also make sure you follow the directions. Spray on both surfaces, let it tack up, and then mount in place and smooth. Grab a vinyl smoothing tool for like a buck, it's definitely worth it.

If the MDF is sealed (painted or primed) then I would use the wet method. I used a mix of 50% water and 50% isopropyl alcohol in a squirt bottle with a few drops of dish soap. Tack one end and work your way down. Spray both the surface and artwork and then use a squeege to smooth it as you go and work the bubbles out.

I agree...... If they are self-adhesive.

Ok, good food for thought. I don't think i'll use the wet method though because i don't trust myself to fully seal the MDF.
In a few more months time when i finally do this, i'll post some pics in ht project thread i started about 2 years ago ;D
