Title: Playstation and Dreamcast guns on a PC monitor?
Post by: IceCold on July 03, 2003, 06:35:11 pm
I have 2 questions.  Do Sega Dreamcast guns work on a PC(svga) monitor?  Do they work with the VGA box thing?  Would they work if you used the TV in part of a video card, then used it on the monitor?

Do Playstation 1 guns work on a VGA monitor, using the TV in part of a video card?

I doubt they will work with the tv in part of a video card, but it'd be pretty cool.  If it did, I could play house of the dead 2(dreamcast) and Area 51(playstation) on my MAME cab  :o   :)

Good news, Dreamcast lightgun games work on a VGA monitor (using the DC-VGA box).  Bad news, DC lightgun games will not work through the s-video/composite cable run through to a vid capture card on your computer monitor.

Good news, Playstation1 guncon games will work on a TV.  Bad news,  Playstation 1 guns/games won't work on a computer monitor no matter what you try.

Good news, Playstation 2 (guncon2) games will work on a computer monitor if you upscan the signal (I have only tried with the xrgb-2 upscanner and it works).  Bad news, Playstation2 guncon2 games will not work through the s-video/composite cable run through to a vid capture card on your computer.

thank you for the information.  At least I can use the dreamcast.  It's unfortunate I can't play area 51, but I'll get over it(or play it on a TV, or play it at the local arcade)

A more expensive option would be to buy a monitor that does both 15khz and 31.5khz like the d9200 that everyone talks about.

What if I use a scan converter? Would my DC gun work on my PC monitor w/ my scan converter? Would it break anything to try? Am I risking anything?

No the DC lightgun will not work through a scan converter.  But it wouldn't break anything to try.

got a simple question..
ps2 guns works with s-video ?
My nec monitor has s-video input and 2 vga.
vga inputs are for dc and pc.

dave_k ?  :)

its like a tv s-video input.not goin through video card's input.
The monitor is multi sync (15 to 50 khz I think)

If your NEC monitor has s-video input, and syncs down to 15khz, then it should work.
