I'm trying to get mame to load as fast as possible when I throw the power switch on the cabinet. The boot device is a CF card in the IDE socket to there's nothing to spin up. What I'd like to know is, will windows or linux boot faster? I see advancecd and that linux distro is TINY but I'm not too sure how well it would work. So far I haven't had a lot of luck with it.

My guess is that DOS based mame would be the fastest on your IDE-CF setup. You'll only have to load a few mbs of files after bios post. Although you'll be limited to earlier versions of mame. mame 0.34 wasn't too bad and that was pretty small. would that work in dos mame?

I'd like to be running the latest version if possible. What version are we at now anyway? I'm using mameui32 .131
