Hello everyone,
first off I have to say I'm fairly new to this and I want to thank you for looking over my post.
Anyway, I was wondering if there are any arcade sticks (don't know the proper term, arcade pads? idk) that would work on my ps3 (street fighter IV / MvC2 ;D) and on my Mac and/or PC (Mame).
I know there is the fightstick that madcatz made, but madcatz has always seemed to have made pretty low quality products. Would it be better just to build my own? (I would need a guide for that, for I have no experience with building any arcade sticks. Although I have the tools and it looks really fun to do I just don't know where to start).
So yeah I just want to hear if there are any arcade sticks that would work on my ps3 and Mac/PC computer.
Would it be better/cheaper to just build my own? If so, where do I start?
Thanks for taking your time for reading this, if I made anything unclear just say so. I tend to do that sometimes :blah:
Have a good day

There's a lot of Xbox and other controller "hack" projects here, the basic idea is that you decase a controller and solder in wires to connect to the button switches in the controller itself. That way, from the console's point of view, it's still looking at a ps3 (or whatever) controller, but you've replaced all the normal controller switches with the switches on a stick or big arcade pushbuttons.
I've never done it, but it looks fairly easy, just requires some decent soldering skills.
Don't know about using an external encoder to connect to a console though. I'm guessing that wouldn't work too well, but that's just a guess.
There are others here +way+ more knowledgeable than I on such matters :notworthy:

a PS3 controller works (supposedly) with a PC using a BlueTooth dongle and some drivers...
so... if you made a PS3 stick, you should theoretically be able to use it on a PC.

If you build your own you can use a Cthulhu board for PS3/Mac/PC compatibility. They sell them in a DIY kit or pre-assembled.

you can find the Cthulhu board at lizardlick and gamingnow. preassembled is about $40 and the unassembled kit are $20

Actually... If you can afford to buy a Madcatz Street Fighter IV SE Fightstick... You can replace all the buttons with Sanwa buttons (real arcade buttons) and the controller with a Sanwa JLF controller (popular Japanese fighting arcade stick) as well. They work! It's as simple as screwing in the controller the right way. There's a small trick with the controller but there's a video on youtube that shows you exactly how to do it... Very cool video! Hope this is somewhat helpful. Therer's also a tutorial on how to convert a PS3 controller into a MAME fight stick that will of coarse (duh) work on the PS3 as well.

Aware of that, but thanks for posting.
