Title: Adjustable Monitor Brackets for 19"-27" CRT/LCD - only 1 left!
Post by: 1UP on May 04, 2009, 01:00:25 am
UPDATE: I'm dropping the price on these to $50, since the economy aint what it was in 2005. :)  Paypal, Money Order, or Checks accepted.

These are exactly the same design as the ones offered thru Spincade in 2005.  They were professionally machined for cabinets that were never built.  These brackets were designed to be mounted to the side walls of a stand-up or cocktail cabinet with no externally visible hardware, although they can easily be modified to work with carriage bolts thru the side walls if you need to mount a heavier screen or use thinner wood.

The 6x22" anchor plates distribute the weight of the monitor over a large area, and when bolted to the monitor chassis, actually give added strength and rigidity to the cabinet.  I have personally driven a cabinet using these brackets and a 27" monitor over 100 miles in a bouncy U-Haul trailer, and shipped another cabinet by truck from LA to San Diego and they have held up like a champ.

The brackets are made of almost 1/8" thick steel, very rigid and strong.  They feature a 3-piece adjustable design to allow mounting in a variety of situations with different monitor sizes.  They were made to mount a 27" arcade monitor with universal mount such as the Wells Gardner D9200 or Betson Multisync digital CRTs, but should work with smaller monitors and arcade LCDs as well.

The brackets can be adjusted to a maximum distance of 20 5/8" between top and bottom mounting holes (standard for 27" monitors) and a minimum of 15 11/16" (for monitors as small as 19".)  The horizontal width can also be adjusted depending on the inside width of your cabinet.  For example, the minimum inside cabinet width for a 27" monitor would be 24.25" (but not less than the width of the monitor), and the maximum width would be 25.5".  The minimum distance between the inside wall and the mounting hole on each side of the monitor is 1.8", the max distance is 2.438".  Can be used in wider cabinets by simply adding wood panels to the cabinet walls, or 2x4 supports in the area the monitor is to be mounted.  You can find dimensions for many common monitor models on the spec sheets at http://wellsgardner.com/service/ (http://wellsgardner.com/service/)

I'm selling these for a lower price than 4 years ago,  $50, which includes 3-day shipping anywhere in the US.  Includes instructions and all mounting hardware: 4 locknuts for the adjustment plates, 4 chassis bolts with nuts for attaching the monitor, 16 wood screws (3/4") with extra deep threads which cut into particle board and plywood without splitting.  The last batch I had sold out quick, and when these are gone, that's all folks.  I'm not making any more of these, the margins are just too low on small runs like this...

If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you the payment details.

Thanks!

I'll be putting up some info on monitor sizes supported and mounting dimensions either tonight or this weekend for those who are not sure if this will work with their projects.

Is there a chance the bracket could bend?

The brackets should not bend under the weight of a 27" arcade monitor or similar.  They are made of heavy gauge steel (3/32") and when installed are completely rigid.

To put it another way, here's a quote from RandyT, who helped me manufacture the initial run of brackets:

The only force you'd need to be concerned with is "shear", and with that many screws, assuming the sides of the cabinet are immobile, the force required to break it loose would be tremendous.

There is no limit to the horizontal distance between holes (between the 2 sets of brackets), but the vertical limit when the brackets are adjusted to their maximum length is a hair over 20 5/8" (20.644") which is typical for a 27" monitor with universal mount.  For a 31" monitor, you should be able to use the brackets without the adjustment plate, but I would recommend that you use carriage or socket cap bolts that go all the way through the cabinet walls from the outside to handle the extra weight.  I can provide you with some nice black oxide button cap bolts if you're interested.

This post is getting a little messy, so I'm working on a graphic that makes a lot more sense of the mounting measurements.  Will be up soon.

If I had had this much info before I bought a set I may not have bought them. It turns out that the cab I have is 26.5 inches wide inside and I have a 27 inch monitor.  The brackets do not go for that width. However the cab does have bolts through the sides so I am bolting a 1 x 6 between the bracket and cabinet side on each side. That way I have the correct width for the monitor. The brackets are good heavy duty quality and I think that this will work.

That's the recommended way to make it fit.  If you don't want to use bolts, you can just glue and screw some extra wood panels onto the inside walls of the monitor area.  Unfortunately, these aren't just going to drop into any cabinet size with any monitor size, some modifications may be necessary.  Some concessions had to be made to allow some flexibility while not compromising the strength of the design.  If I made the front mounting studs too long, they would not be able to support as much weight.

However, even with the addition of wood to the mounting area, this solution is usually easier and more stable than rigging something from scratch.

I'm sorry it took so long to get the dimensions up, but I hope the brackets end up working for you.

I entered feedback but I went to add a quote mark to the 27" and I hit enter instead.  The feedback is short for that reason.  Is there anyway to edit my comment?

Thanks for the rating.  I don't know if/how you can edit it but I wouldn't worry about it.  :)
